Right, Im joining the navy on the 26th of April, and I need a fitness guide to follow - I need to work on all areas , so building up muscles and doing running to build stamina.

Any help would be appreciated, all the way of what to eat to maximize muscle growth, etc.

And yes, I know I need to practise touching my toes in the showers and picking up the soap and applying lube, blah, blah..... ;)

Well in a month you should have no problems in bulking up to Arnie in the 80's size and running long distance as fast as a Kenyan.

Or not.

How much exercise do you do now and what's your diet like?

Get a massive bag, fill it with rocks and RUN RUN RUN RUN RUN.

Are you in yet or is this some kind of fitness test? If you're already in, I wouldn't worry. My mates who are in the RM and various other branches of the armed forces have all gone in as 'average' fit blokes and after a couple of years in are now all pretty beefy. Seems the on the job training is pretty good ;)

theres a prejoining fitness routine in PDF format on the navy site aimed for you to do after you get accepted but before joining. it gradually builds up the distance/length of runs and other excersises

cant miss it if you look in the fitness test sections

When I read the title I thought it was a joke :(

Run twice a week(platys sticky), do an upper/lower body split twice a week (GordyRs sticky), and do high intensity once/twice a week (HIIT, plyos e.t.c)

Ant

Do 5 days of weights a week, only arms though, just curls to be more precise (don't worry about legs, they do themselves), and have a diet consisting purely of lettuce, and lots of it

Yeah... it takes time to build up strength and stamina. Try to do too much at once and it will be counter productive.

No matter how hard you try, theres's only so much you can do in a month. Good luck.

... and before we can give you any productive advice, we need to know what you're currently capable of. How much exercise do you do at the moment? What time would you (say) be able to run a mile in? What can you benchpress? Are you more concerned with strength of cardiovascular fitness?

Joke getting old.

Not really. The only thing getting old is;

a) people not reading the sticky/googling before asking stupid questions
b) people coming onto this/other forums asking for a routine to get them in shape in a ridiculously short amount of time.

If this guy is joining the military in a month, then he should have a decent level of fitness or a decent knowledge of how to get fit.

So, how about you refrain from being the decider of what 'joke' is getting old, and realize that if people were genuinely interested in getting fit they would do the research themselves, and put more effort in. All these posts are basically, in my view, trying to find a magic pill.

[edit] Sorry to go off on one, it just grinds my gears :p
