E39 wood trim. fox et al look here.

I don't think there is anything wrong with wood trim - real or fake.

And agreed - think Jez's Merc looks better with the wood trim.

Then again, about 9 million people on here will disagree with me as per usual :-) But I don't care as my other car has a 100% real pre-preg carbon fiber dashboard :-)

It really doesn't look anything like for example rover 400 wood in real life, as with everything its the fake imitations which spoil it for everyone else :(
Just so you know, the 200 Mk2 and 400 Mk1 had real walnut trim ;)

Why would your average new Merc buyer want carbon fibre trim in a luxury car

Well the did used to offer carbon trim as in the mid 90's my father had an C class amg with a carbon trim.

Last time I looked at Mercs they had the opinion of 'avantguarde' interior trim which was basically piano black.

Ive never even seen a current Aston (and ive sat in a few) that was ordered with wood trim. Clearly manufacturers of luxo barges realise that some people think a wood trim dash and rouched leather looks gaudy and tacky.

I assume you don't like the interior of my Mercedes, then? :p

At least this confirmed 2 things.

1) Wooden trim can look very, very nice.
2) Judging by the condition of the front passenger seat, Jez has as many friends irl as he does on here.

;)

and it looks like its got a ghostbusters sign on it!

We established earlier this week that actually Grandads drive Citroen Xsara Coupe's.

My Dad,70, Grandad of 9, still enjoys his e39..... :p

Wood looks great on some cars, e38's Merc's, e39's and absolute cack on others such as my own e36, Mondeo's, Vectras & the like.

I think it depends very much on the type of car.

I don't mind wood in a car if its std equipment, even if it looks daft a la Mondeo, I would not , however have ticked the box for the Wood on the e36, I think it just looks wrong for the car.

As it was a used buy, it was ordered by the original owner who obviously had more money than sence and could not stop ticking boxes on the order form it seems, why on earth he paid extra for the wood I will never know.

Personally I quite like a light birch or beechwood shade. Something that brightens things up and looks less like an old English library or gentlemans club. Other than that the only real wood dash I could appreciate is a falling tree I might happen to be in the path of.

Wood in properly top end cars; S-classes, Rolls Royces, Aston Martins etc looks great, mainly because it is actual veneer. Walnut looks stunning IMO. In a low end car it looks cheap, but can be relatively tasteful still if in the correct style; Rover 75s, Mondeos etc.

It really does depend on the quality of the interior and the style of car.

Range Rover are going with Piano black more so now, although the custom top trim level would let you have wood all round with rhino leather seats if you really wanted it :p
