NEC LCD24WMGX3 Professional Gaming 24" Widescreen

Would they have done that if it wasn't a pixel right in the middle do you think?
When I bought mine I saw a 'dead pixel' policy on the (US) NEC website about their multisync monitors. Unfortunately the link is now defunct, but I think I quoted it earlier in this thread. That said they would replace a panel if a single pixel was fully-lit or fully-dead, but up to 5 stuck sub-pixels were acceptable. If that policy is still in effect, then they're replacing it because it's fully-lit permanent white, not because of the position.

Has anyone been able to get their PS3 to display in 1080p hooked up to the hdmi port on this monitor? Every time I try and change the setting in the ps menu the screen flashes to a snowy pixel background a few times then goes back to the menu and hasnt changed the setting to 1080p. I tried changing some of the settings on the monitor and I somehow managed to get the ps to recognise 720p, but I really want to get that full hd output! I think it's something to do with the resolution 1920x1200 and screen stretching thats causing problems but I'm still pretty confused how to sort this.
Great monitor though, upgraded from a 17" dell crt, blows it away. There are a few dead pixels around the edge of the screen. And there were two stuck pixels, one which seemed rather large couple inches upper right of centre, blue colour. And another up towards the upper right corner, very small also blue. Today the smaller one is gone and the bigger one is now bout the size of the small one!? Is it usual/unusual for stuck pixels to behave like this? Anyway not sure if I will try and get a replacement as from about a metre away I can't see it unless I'm totally squinting/focusing on the area and the game/film scene is dark and then its tiny, up close its still only really noticable on a dark screen and if im focusing on the area.
Cheers,

ps. been using the hdmi cable included with the monitor

Select the Hdmi port your useing for your ps3, go into the monitors Tools meny and turn off
DDC/CI

then change resolution again on the ps3 to 1920x1080p once the ps3 has displayed the picture go back in to the tools menu and reenable DDC/CI

Help please. Ive just received mine today and the 1st things I tried were my 360 & PS3. The games look low res, washed out and rubbish, I was gutted. Tried various settings and no joy. Whacked on my PC and wow what a difference. What the hell am I doing wrong with my consoles? I have COD4 on my PC & 360, but on the PC its in a different league.
Thx in advance

Been testing the monitor with a game called HAWX demo.

WOW that game is awsomely fun hehe, also its a fast motion game, and i didnt see any GHOSTING what so EVER ;)

really am loving this pannel.

cant wait untill monday then i wont have to put up with this white pixel heh

Hi,

In response about the 360 and ps3 games looking washed out. I dunno what connection your using to connect the 360 but i have found in the past that the vga seems to have a higher gamma or brightness rating, looks more washed out than component. However this was my experience about 18 months ago, maybe today they are both the same via a past update.
Also reguarding the ps3. I had washed out colours and found that if i set my ps3 display settings to full rgb, then i have to set the NEC input range to PC. If it is set to limited then the monitor needs to be set to av via the input range menu.

Hope this helps,

Phil.

the xbox works perfect for me via HDMI 1920x1080p
the image doesnt look washed out at all for me and the black levels are outstanding aswell.

not sure what your guys issues are on it but i know what im seeing ;P

Mine looks great too, i was explaining the option on the ps3 that supports full rgb. Most hdtv's support the AV range and so when you connect the ps3 you set it to limited in the display options. This is already set to limited as default. However with this being a monitor it supports both limited and full rgb, in the settings you can choose between these via pc or av mode. I found that when i plugged my ps3 in whilst it was set to limited that the colours were washed out, this was because i had my monitor set to pc mode = full rgb. By setting the monitor to av = limited rgb no clipping of colurs occured and all was back to how it should be. I was just explaining that this may be the problem, which is easily sorted out. The colours also look normal if you set the ps3 to full rgb and choose the pc mose on the monitor.

Im still waiting, if someone could kindly plug a virgin v+ box into their monitor for half an hour and see if they get a screen tear i would be so so greatful.

Thanks again

Phil.

Thx for the advice. Both consoles are connected via HDMI. On the PS3 the front menu looks sharp and good, the only 1080p game I have is Fifa09. It looks rubbish. Like 1024x768 rubbish. I wanna cry its so bad. Display says 1080p, and expansion is on real.

Ok ran my 360 on hdmi1, then the PS3 hdmi2, both with Fifa09 (ocd) and the 360 looks nicer than the PS3. Tried the same modes on both, contrast DV Mode etc. The PS3's front end looks sharp and sexy, but the game looks ****. If I cant get the PS3 to look decent then I may as well just bin it. I don't get it. :-(

Got my replacment NEC 24 from NEC today as per squedule due to a white pixel in the middle of the screen that was doing my nut it ;)

im pleased to say, the replacment hasnt got 1 single dead pixel and the blacks for some reason are more deeper on this model aswell :P

over all im impressed with there warantee service.

I'm really liking this monitor although I think I got a white pixel too. I'm not that experienced with pixels yet so I'm not sure if it's a pixel or a sub as these things are so tiny anyway. It shows up white in dead pixel buddy against the black and blue screens but the green and yellow just mess my eyes up and I'm not that good with the red either. I'm gonna leave udpixel running on it for a while to see what happens.

Will do some gaming and watch movies later and see if it bugs me.

My Nec24" Backlight.

as you can clearly see on a crap 2mpixel camera phone the picture is uniform over the entire screen, not a single backlight bleed issue, this is how a backlight should look.

wouldnt you agree ?

I keep loosing this pixel in light coloured work but whenever the screen darkens and the action is in that area my eye is drawn back to it every time. I was watching The Dark Knight and it was fairly offputting at times. It looks exactly like someones taken a pin and made a point sized hole through to the backlight with it. Is that what yours was like ViRuS2k?

Edit; managed to get this pic of mine. Taken on supermacro setting against a black background. It does almost look like a hole but you can see the rgb subs and it's the same size as a pixel.

Large stuck pixel

Not what i wanted as a first post. Just received this monitor and it has a large say roughly 1mm in diameter white dead pixel against a black backround. Tried some games like fear 2 and its really noticeable. Tried phoning NEC but there help desk closes at 5 pm. Overclockers are saying 5 dead pixels are required before they will replace it ( there is about 5 other problem pixels but they are not as bad ). I like the monitor so would just like it replaced, what annoy's me is i'm sure the box had already been opened, the dead pixel spotted and the monitor returned. So i bought the monitor to replace a Samsung with a dead pixel and cannot put up with another one. Where do i go from here phone NEC again, is the serial number all i'll need ? Thanks.

yeah thats the problem i had on my screen when i got it from OCUK

White pixel on a black background slightly top middle of the screen.

--------------
I phoned nec and they replaced mine with a brand new unit and they also tested the replacment for backlight bleed aswell as deadpixels. and i got it the very next day.

so im fairly confident if you have that issue then you will get it replaced.
as its pritty off putting when dark movies or dark scary games ect and you see that pixel as bright as the sun flashing in your face lol

Just tried fear 2 again , its soooo bad ruins the game. I'll try NEC again if no joy it's going back. Compared to my previous monitor ( samsung 206 bw ) the picture quality is great. Fingers crossed. What sort of question;s were you asked when you phoned VIRUS2K. Thanks.
