Hey there I am just wondering if there are any other ex-pats on these boards ??
I left the UK Jan 19th 2008, and currently live just out side Vancouver B.C as much as I like living here I am really starting to missing the UK.

So were are you living now ??? do you miss the UK ??

Im living in Thailand, but only till next year. I wouldnt want to permanently relocate, I would miss my family and close friends. Theres a massive expat community here, but its not for me. It can get very clique-y, especially when it comes to Golf. I think its something everyone should experience once in their lives. Ive previously worked in Switzerland for just over a year which was excellent.

I've been living on the North Shore in Vancouver since September '08 - was originally planning on going home this September, but now looking at extending my stay. Apart from the family and friends back home, I'm not missing anything.

Moved to the States just over 2yrs ago and love it :) Although I miss certain things from the UK such as Indian food :D my mums cooking and decent bread!

Been in Malaysia for about 4 years.

Miss very little about the uk. I've stopped going back in the winter months now (eg for Xmas) as it is dark, cold and depressing.

Reluctantly go back for a few weeks in the summer and wouldn't mind if i never lived back there on a permanent basis.

I've been living in China since last August, though I'll be heading back to the UK this Summer.

I'm usually ok with being away from home, but I can usually keep moving about to distract me from missing anything too much. This year's a bit trickier, as I'm stuck in the one place - and this city isn't somewhere I'd really choose to live in future.

As it is, I miss quite a few things - I have friends here, but I have times when I could do with being around some people who know me. Would also like to be around for my parents at the moment, as my Dad's in and out of hospital fairly regularly. I also miss cheese. A lot. I have to stock up every time I go to Beijing, and it's a fairly expensive round trip for a weekly shop...Lack of decent parks/grass, not much in the way of bars, hassles of bargaining for most everything. Hell, I even miss Scottish weather, at least I knew where I stood with that!

Aside from that, it's been pretty good. I'm looking forward to going back to the UK, as there are plenty of things here that really grate on me, but it is doing wonders for my Chinese. I know I don't really count as an ex-pat, but this is an interesting first experience, as I do plan to leave the UK sometime later in life.

Are you in Dalian? I'm across the water in Qinhuangdao. Been here permanently since beginning of 2006, although spent 2 years here before then.

I've just come back from a week in UK and stocked up on loads of cheese, English sausages, and coffee. These are either impossible to find here or incredibly expensive.

Been living in Adelaide since the end of last year. Not really anything that I miss about the UK yet, though there are definitely some areas where things are better in the UK.

I think "missing things about the UK" depends on which country you go to and the reason why youre there. Most of you have made the choice to emigrate which is why you dont miss anything about the UK, because for whatever reason you wanted to leave. Whereas I was sent here with work, I didnt want to leave that much but the money was too tempting....and I miss a lot of things about the UK!

For all you ex-pats, why did you decide to leave the UK?

Also, how hard was it to get a permanent residency in another country?

Moved to Cyprus July 07. Love it only miss my Friends and Dry roast Peanuts

Cyprus is Easy to move to as its now EU
Why Look out your window

left in 2005 to California for a year, then a year back in UK which was horrendous, I moved out s soon as possible and have been in Switzerland since mid 2007.

Will not ever even contemplate returning to the UK, do not miss it at all. I miss some foodstuffs, that's about it - most of which I important or find substitutes.Miss family, but not friends. Instantly met so many great people form so many different cultures, all intelligent witty and mature, and cultivated as well as interesting. Finding people like that back home was impossible.

I moved to the UAE around November, still in training though and will be for a while in a not so interesting city. However, I know that once I move to the big city I will enjoy it. I will be earning good money and much more than my friends will when they graduate from university. Things I miss really is the TV, I miss being able to sit down and get the regular shows, though when I move into my new home I am getting a slingbox. I think I will also miss things like the world cup, all the pre tournament talk on the radio etc you will miss all of that here. Whilst the weather is great, you do find that you don't really appreciate it when you get it every day. I miss grass aswell. But overall I am really happy that I moved out and I intend to get back to the UK every 1 month or 2 when I start my job properly. Living away from the UK means that when you get back, you appreciate it even more.

I am quite young aswell, 19
