hi, i'll be getting a new monitor in a couple of days and would like to know what size would best suit my pc(see sig).

i currently have and LG 17" 1280x1024 and run every game on max res and detail(bar crysis which i dont play anymore and gta4).

the games i play are the cod series, fear 2, tdu, bf2142 etc and love having all the eye candy on.

so which would be better for me, 19" w/s 1440x900 or 22" w/s 1680x1050.

cheers.

I'd suggest that you always buy the biggest (and best) screen you can afford.

If you go for a low resolution screen now you'll probably regret it when you eventually upgrade the rest of the machine.

If necessary turn down the eye candy a bit.

You wont be able to run the latest games with "all the eye candy on" at 1680x1050 on a 9800GT. A 19" is way too small these days, so I reckon you SHOULD STILL get the 22", but with the express intention of upgrading your GPU to a 4870 or gtx 260 in the coming months. 1280x1024 to 1680x1050 is a big old jump.

Id say bigger screen too. Like Alfie said, you probably wont be able to max out all the settings if you have it at that res, but turn them down a bit and should still look way better due to the increased res.

Plus it means if you upgrade your graphics card anytime so you can max out the settings, you automatically got a screen that can fit the high res as well

i first thought of a 19" for two reasons,

1, so i didn't have to compromise detail,
2, i thought a 22" would be to big because of the distance from where i sit to where the monitor will be(about a foot and a half).

but i think you right on getting a 22", i'll just have to talk very nice to the wife so she'll release the funds for a 4870 or 260.

cheers guys.

hi, i finally got me a new monitor http://www.viewsoniceurope.com/UK/Products/LCDE2/VA2213wm.htm from the well known high street catalogue shop for £117.

now i was expecting my pc to struggle when playing games at the optimum res but no!

cod4 ave fps is 90
world at war ave 70
tdu is 60
and gta4 ave is 25

haven't tried anymore games yet but all i did was bump the res setting up to the max 1920x1080 and left all the eye candy on.

my 9800gt may just last me awhile longer :)

Glad to hear you're happy with your purchase! I always go with the bigger monitor if you're thinking about the future as well, saves you the hassle of upgrading more frequently later.

That 9800GT still has a lot of life in it yet!

Ha 19inch is way to small, i roll with a 17 and it suits me fine, colour and lightiing is great! Granted 1280x1024 is my max res, however i get quick framerates even in the more demanding titles e.g. Crisis 55fps average and Far Cry 2! So, it makes me wonder why all everyone needs a hefty monitor when in most cases they have not got the hardware to back it up? I have and iam still not budging.
