Street Fighter (SFIV, SSFIV, HDR)

There are some great Abel Vs Zangief videos (although I can't find that specific tournament series now...) which show otherwise. I think you just need to step up your game.

You can change the game after it has been released with these things called patches!

It will not happen. They will not patch the console versions as they cannot patch the arcade versions.

they could still do it, soul calibur had a few arcade revisions and patches are easily added. if they did though it wouldn't be frequent and probably a one off. i very much doubt sf will ever be patched though, anything thats broken it just accepted (bugs/glitches included.. mvc2 anyone?) and a playstyle is developed around it lol!

there are some characters i just dont enjoy playing against though, blanka being one of them. i think if any minor change was made to his electricity either in terms of priority, hit box or safety, it would make him a much more bearable fight.

i guess with all beat em ups though theres always gonna be a few match ups that are just gonna be one big uphill struggle

My game is perfectly fine, i beat gief players most of the time and i rate myself as one of the better players, making it to the semi finals in the currently ongoing PS3 tournament and having over 2300BP. What i'm complaining of is the fact that fighting him is just so dull, you have to play the long game. Risks are easily punished with a throw, long, adventurous combos which would work against any other character will be interrupted by a throw, looking at him strangely will result in a throw.

There is no fun in just rinsing and repeating the same tactic over and over again to get a win which is what is required to beat gief. Mixups are what makes this game shine and against gief they are just a risk.

That said, i'll still wheel kick my way to victory against a gief player, just because i know they want to lariat their way to victory. Rock, paper, scissors i guess.

Why don't you mention command grabs in your post at all? Your command grab beats all of Zangief's wakeup attacks when he's been knocked down. Literally the only thing that he can do is jump away, and that certainly mixes up the game a lot. You shouldn't wheel kick all the time either as any decent Zangief will just EX green hand you to punish.

If I'm honest no one on here (or at least no one in the tournaments) is particularly great at this game and that goes for the vast majority of online players too. None of us are good enough for the absolute attributes and tiers of characters to make any noticeable difference at our level of play.

Actually, i'm first to admit i don't use Abels command throw anywhere near as much as i should. I do use it on wakeup though as a typical gief player will just stand next to you when you're down in the hope he'll get a throw in, but it isn't exactly a mixup move. The problem i have is that gief players just mash the lariat button so if you even slightly mess up your combo by a few milliseconds, something you would get away with against most characters, you will get a huge portion of your health taken away by his high damage, high priority, easy to execute move. It's just not worth the risk of being adventurous, i haven't come across a gief player that has reactions quick enough to green hand me with any reliability when i do a wheel kick. Worst case scenario they just go into a corner and block, if that occurs it's jump in, medium kick, command throw or low kick, command throw. Both boring tactics but both work.

I'm not claiming i'm great, or even particularly good, but i don't think i need to 'step up my game' as i typically win, especially against gief players. It's blanka i struggle with but even now i'm learning how to break through even of his most seemingly safe attacks.

None of the people on my more than 50-strong friends list have 4000BP jamesdavid, however i envisage your post is purely baiting again. Didn't you get suspended for that last time?

having 2800BP is nothing, standard players should have atleast 4000 by now..

What about those players who prefer local-multiplayer?

I play mostly all my matches against friends when they come over for beer, and so rarely venture online in ranked matches. To be honest, I have 380BP but I consider myself above average.

I've also fought some tough cookies who were clearly not 50BP, and some spammers with 2400BP, so it's all relative ;)

What I mean is that you complain about things that the better players just don't seem to have an issue with (from reading around shoryuken.com, not from first hand experience) and as you improve you'll probably align your opinions more with theirs. They all say that it is an unfair fight and that Abel has to be diverse to succeed.

As a Blanka main no attacks are overly safe imo unless your opponent is predictable.

BP is also irrelevant, just like playing public CSS or SC games on the PC, none of the great players will bother with online and will always play in person or in tournaments which is a shame as I'd love to get owned by one of them to see just how deep the game is. I consider myself terrible at SFIV but on a good day I can give some of the better players on here a bit of a fight.

Jamesdavid3 has previously been suspended for repeatedly baiting, swearing and flaming, although his comment here is not really any of those.

There's loads of tourney videos you can observe from and quite a few of the good players do play online, not sure about the Japanese but some of the yanks definitely do.

I really don't see what point you're trying to make anymore kreee.

I'm complaining that fighting gief is boring because you have to play safe with abel, yet you're telling me people on shoryuken.com (i assume you use this example as it's where better players post?) say it's an unfair match. So these better players also have a problem with gief? I don't think it's unfair, i just think it's boring. If being a better player at this game will make me feel that i'm at a disadvantage to gief then i'd rather stay as a mediocre one. Surely if even the better players say it's an unfair match then that indicates that gief is indeed broken like margaret said?

Oh and BP isn't irellevant for your average player, i don't have any intention of becoming one of these best players who only play with each other, i intend to play against normal people online just like i would in CS:S if i played it or any other game. It's a good way to get an indication of how good a normal SFIV player is, better players on my friends list tend to have have more points.

Gamer Tag: Kreeeee

How do you know this exactly?

It's true in all competitive games.

Streeteh, I suppose I have no idea what my point is any more either :p My original point was that Abel Vs Zangief is a hard match but doesn't have to be repetitive... but I can see where you're coming from with your side of the discussion.

I am looking forward to playing you Streeteh - I am guessin you will be better than me; I will be able to get a good gauge of where my game is at.

Still - have to get over my damned(!!!!) SF4 thumb injury and get used to the madcatz pad. Then I am there good sir!

I haven't won a game against Street yet!! Good luck mate!!

We'll play again soon too :)

On the thumb front, i actually got a blister in the first week of playing this, perseverance has resulted in a callous on the tip similar to those caused by playing the guitar. Basically, the more your persevere and endure the pain, the less you'll feel it.

On the skill front, I am honestly nothing special in the slightest, i know the basics and mechanics but don't have the reactions or dexterity to pull off the really intricate combos. I have learnt quickly which has allowed me to get all of the multiplayer trophies as i was ahead of the curve, however now players like ojste, who i was previously even with in terms of skill, are miles ahead of me. Another one i can think of who will be better than me in a matter of days is...

Yea chris_beans will look forward to a rematch - think I won 1 out of 7 but yea - ya got me on the others. think I will get there in the end. I played chris when I had just got the Catz pad and was hitting all the wrong buttons and not pulling off the dragon punches or flaming kicks on instinct - the Catz pads require a more definate movement as apposed to the PS3 default pad dpad. but credit where credits due - I made mistakes, but not that many.

Yea - I think reactions are the difference between a good player and a great player. You can know all the moves and the best situation to use them in - but how quickly you pull them off in response to an attack is where it is at.

Really missing this game at the mo - see all you guys playing and really want to get stuck in. however the injury is more like a sprain (pathetic I know) - just from using the default dpad in anger. Afraid to dive in to soon and make the injury worse. You will all be Gods at it by the time I am back.

I feel like I have something to prove!!! Damn this feeble body of mine!!!
