Limescale remover reacted with brushed steel tap

Accidentally sprayed limescale remover onto a brushed steel tap and left it for a few minutes. It has reacted and caused black spots on the tap. At a guess has it removed the 'brushed' finish from the tap?

Anything I can do to remedy?
 
I would say its gone for good. probably tarnished the metal.

I have you beaten tho. my girlfriend thought it would be a super idea to wash her white gold engagement ring in ........ Seradent, DESTROYED
 
Thought as much I'll see if theres any products in the supermarket that look like it'll make it look more 'acceptable'.

Thing is we were engaged a few years ago and split up then got back together. but still the principle of it.

When i worked at Homebase i was given the task to instal an old style square ceramic sink. So i went about the instructions as it was 400quid.

It clearly stated use a sharp impliment and strike from the Back - Front of sink to remove the tap point. so i got further advice on it and yess i was righ it did say this. Im like strange that will destroy the glaze on the front.

So me and my supervisor gingerly went about removing the tap hole. The smallest of hit i gave it and bang the whole thing fell into about 30 pieces. Manager went bonkers lol
 
Exactly the same thing happened to our mixer tap , however it was vinegar that we used to treat the limescale removed the nickel plating and etched through to the copper below. Looks ' orrible now :(
 
Well to those interested - Silver Brasso has gotten rid of 90% of the marks and the tap looks like new.

I'm sure some more elbow grease would remove the rest.
 
If it is steel, you will probably be able to brush it out with a Scotch-Brite couring pad.(go with the same direction as the current brush strokes obviously).If it is plated, then probably not.
