Hiya fellow members,

So we have a old Dish pointing towards the old sky satellite (if it is different?) so i thought "maybe i can get the reciever bit and point it at the right Satellite to get freesat in the house".

so here's the question-
Is the old analogue sky satelite different to the digital one?
And what is the name of the signal reciever bit of the dish (so i can ebay it)?

Finally if the satelite is different, does anyone have a tester used to point dishes that i can borrow?

Thanks :)

Yup LNB, as for a tester, you saying you want to borrow my Wife ?

me CAN YOU SEE A PICTURE YET ? ..........her NO...........me LET ME MOVE IT A BIT MORE..........me HOW ABOUT NOW...........her YES THAT GOT IT

Job done :)

Ha!,

does that actually work with digital satellites?

and nice one for the name of the reciever thing :), Good to know you can pick a decent (?) one for sub 10 pounds.

Its the same satellite as Sky (Eurobird) so if you have a Sky dish already it will work straight off with Freesat. You can pick up a LNB off ebay cheapy a Quad LNB that supports 4 boxes is only £8 delivered.

ordered :),

All i know about the dish is that its pointing at the old Sky satelite. It's been there since the 1980s, surely its not the same satellite?

Compare it to the direction of your neighbours Sky Minidish if you can. And just get a cheap signal strength meter, it saves so much hassle, around £10.

IIRC Analogue Sky was on Astra 19.2E and Sky Digital is on Astra 28.2E.

If you're using a PC for receiving, then there's loads of interesting stuff out there which is unencrypted on other satellites.

As stated above the old sky analogue service was beamed from 19.2 east whereas sky digital is beamed from 28.2/28.5 east.

Also make sure you put some self amalgamating tape or at least a rubber weather boot over the end of the cable once connected to the lnb.You dont want any water getting in :) Satcure is a great place to buy from

When i setup sky here, i took a sky box and portable tv outside and did it via the signal strength meter on there, not had any issues since i put it up over a year ago.

It is not the same one mate, it will need to be moved a few degrees, as you seem to have gathered you will also need the replace the LNB with a universal item as the old one will not pick up all of the frequencies needed for the digital transmissions.

My mistake on my original post I forgot the first service from Sky was analogue.

Found this awesome site.

Got the astra 1 and 2 dish pointing telemetries and worked out how much roll, yaw is needed.

Hopefully it will work.

And thanks for all the replies :), will let you all know how it went. (Items *should* be arriving tomorrow)

Finished pointing, and after the first go, it seems to be recieving channels.

Very happy about it. Now i just need to finish the propper media PC. (just testing the card on my pc).

It probably could do with a fine adjustment, but will leave that for when a friend comes to help.

Thanks for all the help :)
