Hi every1 i thought i would make a separate post to the already existing 8800 GTX on my way out post, beacuse i realy do think mine is done for and that its not driver issues.

It all started about 3 days ago my pc started glitching whilst playing wow (how shameful) As this happened more than once i took my GFX card out and gave it a clean it was very dusty from neglect. It ran smooth for the next day.

As it was my 21st not to long ago i got COD5 WaW as a present, so i installed it played a bit online after patching and here is when my GFX card started to buckle. BY buckle i mean i would get the frozen screen and driver error. I had recently updated to 182.08 driver. Today i managed to watch scrubs ep11 (bit disapointed with it tbh) with my screen and everything being fine. I shut down and went for a shop and when i came back my screen has screwed up. Right from boot i get random white letters followed by rows of green and red lines. When i finaly get to Windows (vista 32). My screen has redlines/dots running all the way across it.

Here is what i tried: did a rollback no effect. Uninstalled old drivers, installed new ones, making sure all old ones are gone. When i did this yesterday i got native resolution and the display worked. 2day it just stays in 800x600 mode with the interference onscrean. Does this mean my gfx card is broken? even tho it was fine 2 days ago? I will try get my hands on another to test, in the meantime i was wondering wether there is any way to play around with drivers? Also I bought the card 3years ago from Oc and am wondering how i can check if i have warranty on it? Its a Gainward 8800 GTX

If u find this a bit of a read i do appolagise and any help will be most appreciated

Oh and i also got this warning in Device manager:
Windows has stopped this device because it has reported problems. (Code 43) But as i understand its a general error and not specific.......

sound like it is coming to the end of its life and if it is still artifacting as soon as you boot before windows can load the display driver theres no point trying to change the drivers or anything in windows because it defanitly sounds like a hardware problem :(

have you checked to see if the video card fan still works ? if you computer boots ok from cold with no screen corruption and then when in a game it locks up or the screen artifacts it might just be overheating, you might be able to find and aftermarket cooler if the videocard fan has died.

as i have never rma anything I am not sure how that would be done

you say you gave it a clean? Check you didnt dislodge the heatsink at all; may be worthwhile to make sure there is still good contact between them. Also make sure both PCI-E power connectors are in properly.

I think that the fact that you got artifacts/corruption right on boot is indicative that it isn't a heat issue as I doubt the GPU would be that hot on boot.

Yep the fan is working, but i get screen corruption as soon as i boot so no chance of even going into a game. If any1 else could just confirm that i need to dig a grave for my card would be ace...(i know it 3.am. will check back in the morn)

Also what would be a decent cheapish replacement with my current specs
Gigabyte GA_965P_DS3 (Socket 775) PCI-Express DDR2 Mobo
Corsair HX 520W ATX2.2 Modular SLI Compliant PSU

cheers

When i cleaned it i just removed dust from the back and from the fan but i will check in the morn as my eyes are closing and my frustration lvl is through the roof

You got exactly the same problem as I did. The fan was working fine, the card wasn't particularly hotter than usual, and it came on all of a sudden, same problems, same message in Device Manager. I did the same things you did to no avail, eventually contacting BFG support who didn't mess around, went straight for an RMA (which I'm now waiting on).
My pics are here and here if you wanted to compare my problems to yours. Most people I've spoken to say it's a RAM issue (on the card), but whatever the problem, it's b0rked.

I am getting the exact same problem, it seems to occur when the PC has been turned off for a few hours or more, i have been able to fix it by uninstalling and reinstalling the drivers a few times, eventually it starts to work again.

Masterdog your pictures made me cry a little lol exactly the same as what happened to me. I will now go onto the webnotes and rma it. Thnx for the help

Oh and Olip if u get pictures like master then rma is ur only hope. Cheers again folks

Looks like I will have to either leave my pc on all the time or buy a new card, i wont be able to RMA mine as i put new thermal paste on it last week, i thought it was overheating. :(

Course you will, as long as you got the stock cooler back on they'll not know, they don't even check em. :)
