Weekend Footy - 21st-22nd March **SPOLERS**

It'd be a shame to see Newcastle go down, as an Arsenal follower they're basically the only team that doesn't defend to the point of ruining the game (besides the top 3) in the league. I've always had a soft spot for them and I used to love them back in the Keegan days, my dad has always persuaded me follow the more attacking sides.

They're not down yet, one win and they're out of it. It's just that noticing how bad they were today it's a real possibility. Some of my earlier (footballing) memories are of Newcastle, will feel sad to see them drop if they do, a bit like Blackburn really till they came up.

I'd quite like Newcastle to go down, I'm not sure why though since I have no preference either way for any of the other teams around the relegation zone.

Fulham? Hull? Man City? Tottenham? Middlesbrough? Wigan? West Ham? All of the above?

I'd really like to see Newcastle stay up, but in our current position I don't want to say another club apart from mine will. Like Blackburn, Newcastle have a strong history in the Premiership and they would definitely be missed. Just a shame to think that either of our seasons could end like this :(.

To me it looks like Liverpool are gaining a second wind. I atleast now think it will go down to the last game, where before I thought Manu would have it wrapped up with 3 or so games to go.

The amount of football they have coming they really could have done with wrapping it up early.

The girlfriend (also a United fan) is being rather cynical about it all.

"I think they're just doing it to keep things interesting - if they ran away with the title with 3 or 4 games to go, where would be the excitement in that?"

Quite. :D

Tbh I can't remember who did and who didn't against us, but I didn't think the teams I listed were that bad for it.

Generally speaking they're not but away to the top sides they seem to play for a draw. Both are usually pretty offensive at home and iinm have decent home records against the top 4.

Entertaining game that, should have had 3 in the first half was it not for some good last ditch defending and goalkeeping. Awful pen from them and a shocking decision for Taylor not even to get a yellow. Could have had 6 at the end of that really but its another 3 points into the champs league positions.

Aye, having not enough money to spend on their top players wages and making themselves a far less attractive prospect to potential buyers, for a chairman who is desperately wanted out by both himself and his team's fans, is surely the best way for them to sort themselves out.

Just watching MOTD

What the hell was ferdinand doing with that 2nd goal? He walked away from Gera and just got in Van der Sar's way...

Rooney :o

Two red cards against United, wonder how long it'll be before we see Phil Dowd referee again.

Said it last week and I'll say it again, he looks a mess without Vidic.

First one he got right, but Rooney's second yellow was just plain bizarre.

Then again I think he was lucky Scholes made the penalty decision so easy for him.

Why is it bizarre? He's thrown the ball back (and like they said on MOTD, not to an Utd player) in an aggressive manner. Harsh, maybe but not bizarre.

edit: actually when you look at what Ronaldo got away with in terms of discent then it was very harsh. Still not bizarre though.

Given the game was already at boiling point and tempers were flying it's easy to see why he sent Rooney off given the force he threw the ball back.

It's called playing with some urgency. Just because he's the only person on the pitch to show it doesn't mean it's wrong.

He could have thrown the ball down, or away. He threw the ball back.
