Lad breaks into a house and is killed...

Oh, I'm sure it was driven home to him shortly before his death. Admittedly, the timeframe might have been only a matter of seconds, but I'm sure he got the gist.

:)

Meh. Bit late for that now.

In general terms, I think that stories of burglars getting killed on-site suddenly show the criminal in a positive light so giving such an incident publicity has the opposite effect to what the keyboard warriors want.

how on earth did you come up with that

Erm, maybe because then people start showing sympathy for the criminal.

All of a sudden, by killing the criminal, you turn them into a victim.

This is why I disagree with capital punishment and any kind of vigilante revenge nonsense that anyone wants to come up with.

Do you mean that the law only allows you to use reasonable force to defend your property ?

Nope. I mean that the law doesn't differentiate between types of property. A field, with wide open spaces secured by a fence at the edges, is regarded the same as an apartment in a building.

At least that's the impression I got from people talking on here. But this is something i'm rather uneducated about, so please correct me if i'm wrong :) (though i'm doing law next year. i really should know this :p)
