Looks like U2 are losing appeal

U2 are the biggest band in the world...? Based on what?

I think the Beatles beat U2 to every record going. Not bad for a band that was only around for 10 years, and split up 6 years before U2 even got together.

the Beatles don't exist any more mate, and granted they were a bigger band, I'm a big fan, it was 8 years they were together recording and i doubt the world will see anything like them again. however they were mostly a pop band in from 1963 - 1966 when they built up the main fan base, unlike most pop bands today the the Beatles took there fan base and as the young teenage fans grew so did the Beatles music.

modern day boy bands churn out the same stuff giving them a limited time span, Take That recently came back with a more mature album (not that i'm a fan) and managed to pick up there old audience which was quite an achievement.

what U2 have achieved for what is fundamentally a rock band is pretty amazing, the last album before this had 3 number 1's and for a chart that is dictated by a young audience for a ageing rock band to continually produce number 1 albums and singles and dictate the airways like radio 1, 2, 3 and 4 did the week of release says something about them. Not to mention the 22 Grammys U2 have won which i believe is a record.

you don't have to be a fan of man utd to see they are great team, same goes for music

Jimlad there's no point trying. Every thread that's about U2, people will want to come in and vent their hate - even if they know pretty much nothing about U2. Their hate is not based on fact, but based on what they hear from others, or how the media shoves U2 and Bono in their faces.

"I hate Bono because he's a ****"

"U2 haven't made a decent song"

"Bono is up his own **** with those sunglasses!!"

"U2 will never be bigger than Oasis."

"Bono gets paid to do charity work."

Just a couple of things I always come across. Oh well. Ignorance is bliss.

Are they paying you to stick up for them? Or are you just a really blinded fanboy?

Its a band at the end of the day. People aren't all supposed to like the same thing and music is supposed to be subjective.

he gives plenty mate, just does not make a song and dance about it, read the facts and read books on him.

that's why celebrities do charity, it's not about giving all there money away it's about changing thought patterns and making people change. Using there influence.

....while keeping all the money.

Well, I'm clearly a paid blinded fan boy because nobody should ever like a band and defend them, god forbid it...

Well duh, thanks for stating the obvious. You sir shall have a medal.:p

So go away then?

Why are you writing these TLDR replies to anyone who talks badly about your precious Bono?

I like plenty of solo artists and some bands but I don't defend them to the death like you do.

Get over it.

Erm, actually no I'm not constantly writing TLDR replies to those who talk badly of Bono. I've wrote a couple of replies for 2 threads about U2 recently, big wow and there's been plenty of others made before which I haven't replied in.

If you want to talk about writing replies in regards to U2/Bono, what about you? You have replied to 2 threads about U2/Bono and ripped into them/him. So if you're implying I have an obsession with defending U2, you just as much have an obsession attacking U2.

Get over it yourself.

Now, excuse me I'm going to listen to the biggest band in the world's new album - No Line On The Horizon. Be sure to buy your copy.:p

Horrible band

Horrible music

Horribly overrated

Arrogant lead singer

Average guitarist

Meh, U2 are nothing but an average band to me.

85% of their sales probably come form Ireland anyway :P

I haven't ripped into them at all (much). I've simply criticised you for criticising the criticisers of U2. ;)

Horrible music. Now yes. I'm into their 80's stuff anyway.
Overrated, again, now, yes. In the 80's they were great
Bono arrogant? Debatable. He cannot sing anymore, doesn't matter how much people defend him. Facts are facts.
Edge average? Now that's fighting talk son.

All and all, I'm still going to see them in Cardiff. Just for old times sake.

what a joke, bono can't sing at anymore.... they recorded 3 of those songs from the new album in one take. try listening to track 3 mate.

They played at Fordham University in NYC a couple of weeks ago for an early morning breakfast TV show. I've friends working there who watched the performance, they said lots of the students didn't even know who they were.
