Street Fighter (SFIV, SSFIV, HDR)

Got a quick question for 360 pad users. I play with a stick but my mates comin over tomorrow for some SFIV and I'll probably give it to him to use so I'll be stuck with the pad. I've never used it before so is the default button layout ok or should I change anything? Cheers :)

I personally prefer having hard punch and hard kick on the left and right shoulder buttons respectively. Then the all punchs and all kicks buttons on the left and right triggers respectively. And for movement I use the analog stick.

im actually gonna stop baiting you into doing it after the last time we played, i finally realised its actually a bad idea even at max range lol :D

lulz, the amount i screamed with joy as i finally got that perfectly placed ultra in to win my first match after like 10 losses was horrendous. I'm sure i peed off the neighbours.

Good games that night though, it's rather rubbish to admit but i'm glad i actually managed to get you down to low/critical amounts of health before you won in 90% of the fights. It's annoying me that i KNOW how to do two different cancel combos perfectly but i always chicken out and go for the safe 3x combo i always use. So many stupidly missed opportunities for large amounts of damage in the favour of a safe combo.

Also, i noticed that even against you, using light command throw when you got up from a knock-down was very effective. I just felt lame using it, especially several times in a row. Need to decide whether that is indeed a viable tactic or, as i like to call it, 'a gief'.

Still need to work on my pokes too...

[EDIT] Also, i've decided Dan has to be my second choice. I'm not particularly amazing as him, probably about as good as with Ryu/Guile (my other two potential seconds') but he's just so hilarious. While i do get excited when i land a good hit with the other two, the moment i land a Ultra with Dan i just giggle to myself at the slapstick humour, he's just brilliant. I also love the fact that taunts can be worked into combos, didn't realize he actually has 4 different types of taunt, a few of which can be used to trick people into thinking it was a special move, leaving them confused.

Those of you who use the standard PS3 controller, what button config do you guys use? Especially ojste.

The way I have my layout, I don't have a LP or LK on there which I NEED!

left trigger
focus

left button
throw

right trigger
3x K

right button
3x P

the 4 buttons are: MP HP MK HK

EDIT: rp2000 just seen your msg, you still want some games? I'll be on from 12.

I seem to be going through a weird phase these past few days with SFIV where I feel like I'm not learning anything and am playing badly :(

I played against a girl earlier (to my surprise) and it was hilarious, she had her mic on and all I could hear was "OH NO" and such, was a few of them in the background too.

Funny stuff!

Same here, so much so that I've started playing with Ken more then Sagat. I still beat the regular lot quite easily who I play most often (few friends and cousins) but this doesn't improve my game at all. As soon as I come across someone like ojste I get hammered. Today I played against a balrog online who was on around 3500BP and another Sagat player, both made easy work of me.

My excuse is I've been playing RE5 more but now thats completed I'm back on SF4. :p

Come on guys who fancies a game in abit?

I should be on later :)

ps3ud0

Fancy a few games? I'm on for a bit more!

Good games e36adz, although I ate some STUPID ultras and supers was still enjoyable (at times :D) I'm guessing you are not too used to playing Balrog? :p

I've never played as Dhalsim before tonight and I only know 3 of his moves and combos, I don't play Sagat much either but aim to learn him in the future. (his uppercut > roundhouse > ultra is too good to miss out on) :p

I'll play a few! If on PSN add "theLMC"

Will be trying some other characters a tad such as Dhalsim for a few games too though. :)

ggs mate lol, as soon as I tried Ken first against your Blanka and saw it wasn't happening I had to change instantly. After the first few games I exited to change my controls because they were set for Ken :p

Eventually though I think I did get use to your Blanka, I knew what moves were coming from where, although one of those roll attacks I couldn't detect, the one which goes and hits you from the top, it breaks through block everytime. TBH with you I was learning as I was playing, never played Blanka that many times before ever. Very good games though.

When you switched to Balrog, I didn't know what to block, or what to do as you saw :o Any advice on playing against Balrog seeing as no one I know uses him? Who is your main character anyway? lol

Yep I noticed dhalsim was a new one for you, with Sagat you had me worried for a bit. Some very good games though, especially the Sagat vs Blanka run, you were out thinking me at the start I was just trying to get use to the moves you were using, I was out thinking you for a bit then it swung back in your favour lol, I think its 50-50 if I play you, unless you switch to Balrog then I have absolutely no chance.

Haha I beat so many Ken/Ryu players online it's madness they always fall for the instant slide after "3 2 1 FIGHT!".

I think the ball you are talking about is the rainbow roll, you can control it and make it cross people up which is probably what was happening to you. :p Also when you are getting up if Blanka times it right you can cross people up with the standard rolling attack too, it's pretty nifty when done right. (still trying to master it)

With Balrog the best advice I could give I guess is to keep a close eye on what his punches are, mainly I'm talking about his overhead as you can do either an overhead or a sweep depending on if you hold the punch button down or not and it catches a lot of people out, he's quite good at mixing things up. :)

Oh and don't jump at Balrog when he has an ultra up. :p

As for me I don't really have a main yet, I switch up between Blanka, Balrog and lately a bit of Ryu but I'm not good enough with him yet. :p I'm eager to learn Sagat, a slice of Ryu and possibly some Dhalsim. :)

Haha yeah them Blanka vs Sagat games were fun, I use his hop to get close to someone when they are getting up so they think I'm getting ready to throw/cross them up so they instantly uppercut/tiger knee to try and get out of it but then I just block and retaliate. :)

I know some stuff with Sagat but just not used to playing him really, he also feels very stiff compared to other characters which throws me off a bit. :p

I just checked and see you are down in the PS3 league, and your 'home' character is Blanka. I am guessing your away character will be Balrog, at least against me? easy 3 points no? :D

I am definately gonna have to come up with something against Balrog lol.

BTW who else have you played of the forums and how do you generally do against them? You are definately one of the stronger players I've played on here.

Haha I was intending on using Balrog but figured putting my name down as Blanka was a nice way to force myself into learning Blanka some more. :D

As for my away character, that is undecided. :p ;)

I've played Streeteh, ojste, Tony and Apop, think that's all.

Against Streeteh and ojste I usually trade wins and losses with them quite often, sometimes I get utterly raped and sometimes I rape. :p Think me and Tony played a few that ended up around 4-3 to me (or 4-4 not too sure my HDMI cable was playing up so I had to go off) and from playing Apop earlier I think I was leading with 9-0. :)

blankas rainbow ball has deceptive animation and it crosses over... a lot of the time it will cross up and it doesnt look like it will so be prepared for that. punishing with level 3 FA is feasable at far range as you have loads of time to see it coming.

vs balrog, the general charge character advice is to watch what they do and you should have an idea of what they can use. his headbut is good anti air and combos into his ultra and has LOADS of priority so be careful about that. you should be punish the crap out of it if they whiff, but i remember the punish window is quite small, but its definitely there :p
