Hey, been playing streetfighter for the last month or so really into it absolutely phenomenal game, been using the ps3 controller so far pretty used to it, But would also love to play and learn on a joystick or something similar,
Anyone Have anything in mind in which Is the Best Sort of stick or controller to get.

:D:D

kreeee pretty got everything covered. im waiting for the 2nd batch or TE sticks myself, be prepared to spend in the region £80-£150 if you want quality though (HRAP/TE stick)

theres not much point replacing the ps3 pad for another pad either imo.

Customs are the cheapest way to get the best sticks, although naturally they require you to put a little thought into making it.

I bought a Hori EX2 for £35 to tide me over, and am building a custom stick on the side although parts are slow to deliver due to a backlog on sanwa components.

If I was looking to buy now I'd just wait until the Madcatz sticks are available then buy a TE, or see if the SE electronics are no longer **** and bung a sanwa JLF stick and OBSF buttons in it as I prefer the smaller on-your-lap sticks to the behemoth TE sized sticks.

Thanks for the replies Kreeeee and ojste, Just wonderin are there any certain websites i should be looking at for these, also if i consider putting together my own stick, is it best of i should get a cheap one learn the skill on that 1 and then get my own custom made one or is it better of if i just make my own and learn and play with that one.
Any chance you can give me some sites to look at?

Thanks

You're welcome mate :)

gremlinsolutions.co.uk and Arcadeshop.de for stick parts, and all ready made sticks are out of stock :p

I got a cheap Hori EX2 to make sure I'd enjoy using it enough to start the project but there's nothing wrong with diving right in as you can sell the electronics easily at the moment if you don't like it.

http://forums.shoryuken.com/forumdisplay.php?f=177 This site is the bible for custom stick builds.

Pre-built bodies are the hardest parts to source in the UK, which stinks really, but I used a 4 Litre storage box and it works very well indeed!

Once Again thanks for your help Kreeee,
Terrific Link Il be on it regular, hows your project goin with your arcade stick?

The MadCatz SE stick is fine but a bad batch was around thus the bad rep.

Reviews put it slightly ahead of the Hori EX2 but I doubt you'd really notice a difference as they are both square gate, you can also mod the SE stick with Sanwa parts very easily and it is solderless.

The SE stick isn't £35 better though, even when it's working I can't tell any difference. If you plan on modding then the SE (once the typically poor Madcatz quality issues are ironed out, particularly with the PCB) is a much better choice, but I'd never buy one expecting it to last as long as a Hori model.

My stick is on hold until I can get the Sanwa components but the soldering is a doddle and the pad is all wired up and tested. It's now literally a case of cutting holes in the case, sticking in the parts and plugging the quick disconnects to the parts and I'm away.

Them issues were ironed out and only present in a few batches which was overblown by the internet, the price difference from the websites I was looking at around the time SF IV came out had no Hori in sight for cheap let alone £35 cheaper.

The SE stick is good quality but let down by some manufacturing issues, again only in a few batches.

I have the TE stick and i honestly think the SE would have been good enough.

I didnt even have to pre-order my stick, on the Madcatz official website it was just ready to buy so i got it right away, yet there are people that pre-ordered it of the same website about 5 months before i got mine and still dont have mine.

I had a Hori EX2 before there much like the SE and there fine for ST4. I sold mine on the £bay for triple the price i paid for it in the same Week ST4 came out lol!

Then you were looking in the wrong places. The EX2 was readily available for £35 around the launch of SFIV and was regularly down to £20 a few weeks before.

I understand your need to defend it if you bought an SE, but I just cannot recommend it to people because of the sheer quantity of problems which certainly isn't an anomaly for the manufacturer.
