How much would you be willing to pay for this?

Sounds like you agreed to a favour. Got to be other ways for you to make money rather than trying to get it out of your friends family. Why does it matter why they are rich by the way?

I didnt agree to do a favour they asked me to do it for money.

it wasnt about earning money but i was only willing to do it if i got enough for the ingredients etc. I also have to consider the fact of how long it took to cook, how long I was in the kitchen with the lights on for, my parents are the ones who pay the electricity and im sure my dads already moaning about it.

i said they are fairly rich to point out the fact that they arent scrimping about for money so can easily afford things.

If they want the cake, they will pay for it. £20 is probably a fair bit cheaper than getting it done professionally, and if they are tight they will probably rather pay £20 instead of £50+.

You sure you are friends with these people?

25 quid is perfectly reasonable. Its someones birthday and if people like the cake it might send more work your way.

Lights on in the kitchen? sweet jesus

Made me LOL too.

Seriously, 25 is reasonable SecretSpy. There will always be those on their high horse on the forum who will berate you for even asking for money for it but it would cost a lot more to have done professionally and you obviously put a lot of work into it.

I would pay 25....if it was my kinda thing. :p

like i said i use the word friend very loosely.

I will just see how i feel about it in the morning, i guess the fact that i'm not feeling too well at the moment is making me feel a bit ratty.

(seriously my dad is so moany! although to be fair their bill last month was ridiculously high for some reason so thats probably why)

andyinoz - Ive never even met her mum so I doubt i'd get free cups of tea for life! lol.

He probably moans because his daughter with so much potential hangs around on a forum full of nerds and bakes cakes for people she hates :D

But yeah. Id definately say 25 quid. Just cut your losses if you think ya been stitched up. But you can be happy that youve done a good job etc.

In the past I did plumbing jobs that i didnt even really want to do, for stupidly cheap prices. I fitted a radiator, did first/second fix on a kitchen and fixed a leaky sink for 30 quid once. It was a kick in the nuts but they liked me and I did more jobs for them for proper prices :)

20quid sounds reasonable but if they were already told £10 its a bit late to go changing the price. your invited to the party i take it? if not just say 20 quid ;)

well i told my friend that i was thinking £10. her mums away in france at the moment so i dont know how much her folks were willing to pay

as for the party, er no lol. it was last friday. lets just say her sister is very rude so I wouldnt have gone anyway

Her parents were sensible enough to let her have her 16th bday party unsupervised. despite a previous unsupervised party resulting in her getting alcohol poisoning.

thanks for all the comments though, I will take them all on board and have a think about it in the morning.

Id be scared to let you bake a cake for me Secretspy, you seem so grumpy that Id fear its chocolate filling was from a bog log lol

this tbh.

why did you bake this person a cake? couldn't you have used candles in the kitchen or?

ideally you should have agreed a price before making the cake. But i bet she wouldn't get a cake like that anywhere else for less than half what others are suggesting (£20-£25)

You already quoted £10... if you changed your quote after baking me a cake I'd tell you where to go and head down to M+S and buy a cake.
"Actually its £20... wait, £25... no £40!! How much can you pay?!?!?"
Ridiculous.

Business Lesson of the Day - Agree price before starting work

:p

Alternatively, eBay her and charge her £8.30 for the ingredients and £11.70 for 'shipping and handling' fees when you drop it off at her house.
