Got a 14 month old HP machine here =- XP5000 x64 cpu, 2gb ram, built in gfx.

For a couple of months, we have been getting random errors on start up saying "BIOS Rom checksum error"

Detecting floppy drive A error - system halt

The damn thing wont boot up at all now - any ideas guys?

I have swapped out the ram, tried booting with no drives connected but still the same

We have never updated the BIOS or changed any motherboard settings since we got the thing

There isn't even a floppy drive in the machine at all

have you have sure the hdd is the first boot device in the bios.?
with you replacing the battery, this might have poped all the settings in the bios back to default, and the floppy is the first boot device, and since you dont have one your getting the error.?

I have put a floppy in now and there is still no boot
It comes up with insert system disk now however.
Can't get into the BIOS however as it comes up with the checksum error and system halts before I can get in
