Spec me some stuff to do in Australia

Some good tips in here, will be sure to make some notes! I'm leaving for my travels in 27 days (not that I'm counting or anything!) ;)

Heading to Tokyo for a week first to see a friend, then on to Perth. Will spend majority of my time in Oz, but not planning too much other than that I'll probably head North up the West Coast and on towards Darwin at first where it should stay pretty warm!

Intend to fly to NZ for a few weeks whenever I head over to the East Coast, and also spend a week or two in Fiji. Then I fly back from Sydney at beginning of April 2010, stopping off in Bangkok for a few days on the way.

Can't wait! :D

Make sure you hit Perth in WA just so you can see anal cleanliness

Just make sure you're not caught chewing gum, you'll get nabbed for it :o

Found it on the AU Gov site now, free as well :) Although worryingly it does say dont book anything until you have the Visa - uh oh! I'm guessing its just a formality? I have no convictions or anything (Infact I just received back a clear CRB check :p)

Yeah just a formality, it'll be fine. Have a great time! :)

Just thought i'd add my 10cents...

I moved out here in September spent a week in Perth, then flew to Cairns. When I got to Cairns we hired a campervan from Travellers Autobarn (http://www.travellers-autobarn.com.au/) much cheaper than britz, apollo, maui and all the other major camper companies.

We spent about 8 weeks driving from Cairns to Melbourne but did it in such a way that we went to Canberra & Adelaide too

Highlights on the journey were...

  • Perth Beaches & Kangaroos
  • Billabong sanctuary near Townsville (Queensland) for a croc experience far superior to Australia zoo!
  • Cairns Skydive - Almost blew chunks but it was fantastic
  • SS Yongala Dive - If you dive this is a must
  • Hang gliding near Byron Bay - Just stopped to watch some guys doing it and got invited to have a go
  • The crazy aussie wildlife - especially the weird birds (European birds tend to go "Tweet Tweet" Australian birds go "OI SQUAK BLIP RAHHH"
  • Fraser Island - Not a place for SUVs
  • Sydney - Just damn impressive
  • Canberra - War museum was fantastic
  • Great Ocean Road - Took a bit of time to get used to curvy roads again.

I would really recommend doing the campervan thing the campsites are all pretty damn good, and it's great to have the freedom to stay where you want.

Punch a kangaroo.

Do not do this:p

They will rip your guts open with there feet:eek:

Try eating some why you are here though, Tis good:cool:

South Australia has good wine, Probably the best in the Country. And there is a quite a bit to see and do. But with 6 weeks and going up and down the east coast you will have your hands full probably.

If you do manage to cross the Border into SA but dont go to far make your way to Naracoorte and Visit the caves there. Absolutly Aswome and some have Skellitons in them :D(Just sugesting this because its not too far over the border from Victoria)

If you like War stuff, Definatly go to Canberra and Visit the National War Memorial/Museum. That to is an Awsome place :)

Here are the V8 races that are on in June and July.
19 - 21 June SKYCITY Triple Crown Hidden Valley Raceway
10 - 12 July Townsville 400 Townsville 400

If you are up in Cairns Then you might be able to catch the Townsville one.

The layout is 2-5-2 on the 777 from KL to Mel and 3-4-3 on the 747 from London to KL.

Right on the back of the plane, last 2 seats, of the front of each section for most leg room.

First choice is always the front of each section because you have most leg room. Second choice is the back, because you can lean back as much as you like.

You can always hope for a quiet plane, and if when take off you see a section of seats empty? Jump at the chance to get to it, go back to your own seat when landing. My parents always do that, my mum had 3 seats all to herself to sleep on last month.

If you can, avoid sitting in the middle of the plane where you have people either side of you, it's not comfortable as you can imagine.
