Last night my flatmate (Khunag) and I decided we would go on a little trip to explore a wormhole. While he ran around New Eden kitting out his Caracal for the job, I set upon the task of scanning down a wormhole in my Drake.
First one I found led to high-sec space. Not exactly what I was looking for. So I moved to another system. Three systems later I found one into unknown space in Sakenta.
When he finally got everything together, I undocked from the station I was waiting at and warped us to the wormhole.
When we got inside, it was gorgeous. It was unlike any system seen in New Eden.
First task was create a safespot where we could retreat to in times of danger.
After we made ourselves comfortable we started scanning the system to see what we could find. There was lots of stuff including LADAR/RADAR sites, asteroid belts, many different Sleeper installations, and more wormholes, one of which led deep into 0.0. We eventually settled on a Perimeter installation. We warped in to see what we had.
What we found was a sleeper station burried deep in a gas cloud, guarded by sentry towers, a couple of smaller drones (Probably frigate class) and three larger ones (Cruiser class).
They fired upon me first as I warped in first, but as soon as Khunag warped in they immediately started firing upon him. They owned him in near enough twenty seconds flat. He warped out to our safespot at 3/4 armor. (He later discovered that he had forgotten to turn his shield hardeners on...)
Once Khunag was gone they targetted me again. Miraculously, my passive tanked Drake was holding up extremely well! Despite everything firing upon me, I figured I could probably last at least ten minutes before having to warp out, but I could probably destroy a few of their kind before that happened, reducing their damage output and allowing me to survive longer.
Well, these things take a TON of damage. They have no shields, but their armor and structure seem to have massive resistances and no weaknesses. I tried many different types of missile, they all did the same amount of damage.
At one point, after destroying the first lot, a second set of reinforcements appeared. This time their tactic was different. Whereas the first lot got as close as possible and fired at close range, these guys were hitting me at 50km+, and as soon as I got closer than 40km, they would run in the other direction! I couldn't get in range to get a shot off.
By this time Khunag had regenerated his shields and was back in the fray. As per usual, they targetted him instead (I still haven't figured out why). However we had discovered a loophole in the drones programming.
Operation Fish Baite had commenced. While they would try to stay a certain distance from who they were firing at, they would ignore anything else. So, Khunag ran in the opposite direction to me. The Sleeper, trying to stay at 40km odd, turned around and followed him, bringing him closer to me!
40km...39km...38km...37...36km...GOTCHA! I opened fire with everything I had and let my drones free.
The Sleepers, realising that they had just fallen for a trap, targetted me and ran away again, it was too late. Their armor was falling fast.
At one point, the Sleeper decided that my drones were the bigger threat and started firing upon them. I had to recall them as he had them into armor.
When we finished off these guys, a battleship class Sleeper drone arrived with a backup of three smaller drones.
The smaller drones were uneventful, pretty much the same as the first lot. However the big guy was owning me, taking massive chunks out of my shield every volley. We got him down to 3/4 armor before we both had to warp back to our safespot to regen. However I had left it a bit too late to warp out, and in a single last volley he took out just under half my armor!
Coming back in, we both targetted the battleship drone and opened fire. Again, his missile volley (Predormitan Missiles...that's a new type!) was doing a truck load of damage and I wasn't going to last long. We got him down to 1/3 and had then I had to warp out again.
Coming back for a third and last time, we were surprised to find out there was nothing there anymore! Our wrecks were there, but the station and drones had left. Did they run away? Who knows.
