Will Newcastle still be a big club when they are relegated?

Are you not enjoying being the lower leagues?

Although you're right, we are the lower leagues, there's only one place in England to play football.

In addition, the only football in the world I'd kill to see again is Leeds back in the Champion's League. Everything about it is fantastic.

Newcastle are only a big club in terms of local support. They are not a big club in terms of winning trophies.
I think that the Newcastle fans blame the owner for the current position the club is in. This might cause people to vote with their feet and not renew season tickets next season.
I think the supporters will always remain loyal to the club but with Ashley at the helm you could get a Leeds Utd situation.
It has also been demonstrated this season by Charlton and Southampton how severe the consequenses of dropping out of the EPL can be.
For people who want a new manager, what about Curbishley?

People talk about us all the time, therefore we a a big club, whether you want us to do well or not, you still want to let people know your opinion on us.

You'd never get that with minor clubs such as Sunderland or Boro.

Newcastle are a "big" club, they have a high attendance, for the level of football on display.

That's it, I fully expect that they would get high attendances in the Championship, as they're the only club in Newcastle at a high level of football. I hope that the ticket prices are lowered to reflect this.

I think the fact that its always questioned if they are a big club and even this thread suggest, yes quite maybe, they ARE a big club, no? :)

I think you could argue that most of the people who are saying "Toon are a big club" are infact Toon supporters, therefore the rest of the football world goes, well actually "No".

In fairness, if it is always questioned wouldn't that lean it the other way?

toon fan here, the sooner the fans realise we arnt part of the top teams anymore the better. i thought a religation battle would have been a big enough wake up call.

Think you're missing the point, I consider Leeds a huge club for example, each to their own interpretation I guess though of what a big club is, if measured purely on success they are crap.

I think Newcastle are a big club, just not a top club. Big difference. And I don't think they'll be relegated this season, there are too many other teams down there that are more likely to face the drop. Is it still mathematically possible for West Ham to be relegated? I hope so! ;)

Newcastle are a huge club. And that support just won't fade away. As a (jaded and now pretty disinterested) supporter I'm glad to see they're going down. Could give them the kick up the backside they need.

They consistently under perform and there is the basis there for a "top team".

We'll be massive in the Championship.

Heh. Asprilla. Is that a tribute to the elastic-legged Columbian one, or mere coincidence?

You need your head checked to think relegation would be good for us, it could finish off the club.

If you look at it as a dying relative and want to end their pain then that's fine, if you want to keep it in your life then turning off the life support when its in a coma will no doubt see the end of the sorry story.

it could finish off a club with now relatively little debt(go on force yourself to say thanks to Ashley for that) a huge stadium and 50k tickets sold a week to make money from. If they can even keep it half full they can make more than almost any other club in the championship and more than several premiership teams.

You'll see the end of Newcastle if they go down? melodramatic much......

In all honesty you can only pray that relegation will cause crap clubs to do the all too common thing of buying "experienced" premiership players and take Barton, Butt,Smith off your hands leaving most likely a LOT of spare wages to go on a lot deeper and better squad of actual quality players rather than players who USED to have a reputation. A good squad clear out and buying cheaper, lower wage and better players will do Newcastle no end of good.

You've also got to remember something else the Ashley haters, he's still paying off transfer fee's for players not bought while he's been in charge. As is more and more common rather than pay upfront people agree to pay 1-2mil every 6 months for a few years which is also effecting who you buy and how much you can spend. THe debt isn't officially as you don't "owe" it yet, but Ashley is paying off essentially the mortgage of crap deals from previous owners.

Theres basically no way in hell Newcastle will run into financial trouble once run efficiently and stupid managers don't just buy end of career high wage players who can't be bothered(the viduka's and the like), once you stop spunking huge money on players who are sicknotes, etc.

Stadium capacity has ALWAYS been the key to making money in football and Newcastle have an advantage on what, all but maybe 5-6 other clubs in the country.

I have to agree with DM here, our history of buying expensive lemons has been the death of us, coupled with poor management and ownership.

We've needed a clear-out of the squad for about 8 years but every time an opportunity has arisen, we've simply replaced the chaff with yet more chaff.
