I was in Homebase getting some paint and met a colleague who was just about to buy a Dulux PaintPod kit, yet he hadn't any idea if they are any good or not!

I have always dismissed them as the paint is more expensive and you are limited to Dulux PaintPod colours....as well as having to shell out ~£50 for the PaintPod. Personally I can't see how you can beat a brush and a roller.

However they have been on the market for a good year now and usually stuff like this dissapears if it isn't popular and selling well. So has anyone got one or used one? Are they any good?

Cheers

We bought one about a year ago.
The wife decided that while she was on holiday (she works in teaching, so had a long holiday) she fancied painting a few of the rooms.

As you said the paintpod paint isn't cheap and there are a much more limited amount of colours available.
However it is extremely easy to use, extremely clean and the finish is perfect.
In the end the wife did three rooms and they all came out really nice.

She thinks she was certainly able to do the rooms a lot quicker than if she'd had to use rollers etc.

my mum bought one and had no end of trouble, had trouble getting a refund from b&q untill we ended up getting trading standards involved.

We had a painter and decorator a few months ago round and we were talking about all the gimic products like these and the JML rubbish any way his opinion of it wasn't good.

I read some review from a pro painter on diynot.com and he reckoned they needed about 10 times as much cleaning as is made out. I was in B & Q the other day and the 2.5L paint was 2 for £20 anyway and there are more range of colours in normal tins so you cant go wrong.

I can promise you that it cleans exactly as it says it does.
The unit is extremely clean - this is from first hand experience.

He must have had a dodgy unit then. That or being a professional requires a much higher cleaning standard because colours would be changed more often.

Personally, I think the old medium pile £2 roller is fine and I can do a decent job on a 14 x 14x 10 room in under 2 hours so I don't see the point. For others it could speed things up nicely I guess.
