Grand Theft Auto IV any good?

If you're new to the game with no experience of the other GTA's, then it is a good start. Make sure you play GTA: San Andreas (it's predecessor) at some point too as it is a lot better gameplay wise.

Well it's open world and you can drive cars and shoot people but other than that no. It's more grimy and 'realistic' in terms of setting and story. It' s a third person action/adventure with driving.

Yeah its a good game, just not as good as San Andreas, and not as much fun as Crackdown

If you haven't played a GTA game before and your expectations aren't too high (no way is it a 10/10 game) i'm sure you'll enjoy it

I thought GTA 4 was a vast improvement over SA, and I played San Andreas a lot, to about 95% completion on both PC and PS2. You would have to be a negativistic fool with a nostalgic fixation on old games to believe SA is better than GTA 4.

You're both wrong, they're just different types of games. Neither is a better style of gameplay (except by preference of course) and people who prefer the old one are not negativistic fools

What you just posted doesn't make any sense.
GTA 4 is a different style of game to GTA SA in that it is newer and better.

I had fun playing San Andreas. whilst playing i thought it is one of the most fun games ever.
Whilst playing GTA4 I was just wondering how much left before i finished it.

No it's a different style of game. GTA4 is a more cinematic, gritty, story led game. San Andreas is more about over the top outlandish stuff (like jet packs, parachuting out of falling planes...)

Up until GTA IV i have never touched a GTA game..so bought it seeing as it was touted as being a massive release and looking at trailers etc...it looked pretty decent. So when my copy came i started playing on my 360 and i was instantly hooked on it..So much so that i even downloaded the new episode...just havent had a chance to finish it as im currently trying to finish off dead space and the 50 cent game.

Even my bro is playing it on his PC with the 360 controller and he likes it as well.

No GTA 4 and SA are similar games, just SA is old and ageing and GTA 4 is contemporary. SA plays like a gta game, the 'outlandish' stuff' like the jet pack is a tinypart of the game. In terms of the core GTA gameplay 4 pwns all.

GTAIV is poor in comparison to SA imo! There is nothing to do! I was bored within a couple of hours. First time this has ever happened on a GTA game. So much has been removed from IV in comparison to SA, money for example is pretty much useless as you cant buy anything! Cant mod cars or buy property, no push bikes, pretty much no character customisation, no jet pack, no planes, I could go on. The game sucks in pretty much everyway apart from the GFX and the phone.

On the whole if you look past the frame-rate issues GTAIV is worth the play but in comparison to San Andreas it royally sucks.

Good grief, if that were true do you think there might be less people saying things along the lines of:

'love SA, 4 was dull'?

It's because SA was about becoming a crime lord of the entire map, buying properties, over the top missions and stuff like that. GTA4 is more realistic, gritty (in terms of colour scheme and story) and even by the end you hardly own the city. The outlandish stuff was far from a tiny part of the game, it was there from the first hour of the game until the last part.
