I know it sounds abit silly, like a dvdbunny thread, but I assue you it is not! :p

Basically I'm having an argument with this guy, he claims that all colleges are just school's, and he says you dont go to oxford or cambridge so college = school.

Is this true?

Thanks
Will.

No??? although some schools now call themselves things like "Enterprise Specialist College"

I go to college and it definitely isn't like school. You do however get kid's coming in once a week for Tech work and they use our facilities but most courses are quite hard.

I guess it's higher than schools but not as hard as uni.

Schools are up to 16 but often have a 6th form.

16-18 either 6th form or college.

18+ - University. However Oxford and Cambridge have colleges within the University but that's because they're special :p

Yes and no, a college is a school ion the same way as a University is a school, so this "guy" fails.

What is the FDsC the equivilant of? I was told it was a HND by my tutors, but then again, before I did a National Diploma.

ohh doonhammer you from scottish borders? where abouts im in sunny kelso! you? if you dont mind sharing :D

also yeah here its highschool till 18 which includes 6th form (which is often refered to as collage in england) and then after that you go to collage to do highers/HNC or uni and do HND's etc

If you compare the US to England (or the UK, I'm not sure), then you'll find that their last two years of school, is our two years of college. Although, they're not exactly similar, so my point is worthless. :p

Thats incorrect.

some colleges have a 6th form but you can go to a college 18+

High school for us is up to 18 years of age.

You can attend college from 16 until you die

Not sure if University has a set minimum age or if you can attend if you have the qualifications.

But of an understatement. Go to a top Uni in the UK and do a 'real' course and A-levels and such are a piece of **** is comparison.

I look back on A-level maths, physics and chemistry thinking "those where the days when life was easy" ;)
