Street Fighter (SFIV, SSFIV, HDR)

Sod it, gonna flog Killzone 2 for £20+ and hopefully shift some of the other games I've got in MM, so gonna order 6 Sanwa buttons and a joystick from Gremlin as Arcadeshop.de seems to have a similar wait time but costs quite a bit more and I can't spend that much right now. :(

But I'm fine with the current stick and buttons so it won't be a hard wait. :)

I know the feeling. I volt modded the fans on my old 360 because I could and I don't really need to mod my Hori but I quite fancy trying out an octagonal gate, bat top and sanwa buttons.

I don't mean just for the sake of it, swapping buttons/sticks is like lego, but I mean to prove to myself that I can... if you see what I mean.

I did it for the challenge, and now that I see it's easy I've lost interest in it :(

i can't give you too much useful info really since i don't actually use sagat, i just do combos and stuff for fun :p

i don;t know the best application for tiger knee but apparantly it beats out everything except for ultras, so i guess its used for priority like kens dragon punches. perhaps stick to lk/mk tiger knee for its reduced range?

ive watched your vids and my gameplan would be similar to yours, just keep them the hell away because they have a lot of work to do to get close. once your ultra is up, replace your normal hk you use as anti with wither forward hk or tiger uppercut FADC combos to make use of the ultra.

its seem like most of sagats tools are designed to space anyway, i mean both his throws and stuff like tiger knee/ ex tiger shots knocks them a full screen away lol!

perhaps this thread will be more useful to you, its a breakdown of all his moves and bread and butter stuff :) http://forums.shoryuken.com/showthread.php?t=160652

i find watching tourney/match vids is always helpful for ideas and setups. i bet you'll find some good stuff by watching what other sagats do forced to fight up close and maybe find some useful stuff about tiger knee :D

Thanks again mate, that thread you linked is really helpful. I've been browsing srk a bit but missed that one. I think you're right about the zoning as forcing an opponent to repeatedly wade through a stream of tiger shots while punishing any poorly timed jumps-ins tips the match heavily in Sagat's favour. And, as you say, its important to make full use of any opportunity to land the ultra once its up. Need to hit practice mode tomoz.

The vids tip is a good one. I've watched a few, theres some on youtube of a Sagat player called Mago who is absolutely immense. If I could play half as well I'd be pretty happy :)

Desoldering/soldering buttons is a bit more tricky than lego ;) But I see what you mean now and yeah, thats a big part of why I mod stuff too. I enjoy the challenge. I hope you keep going with it cause I want to see just how ghetto your case is.

Right, i've decided Abels complete lack of anti-air is just too much of a bane for a less skilled player such as myself to consider him a first. Characters such as blanka and bison are incredibly difficult to deal with if you can't hurt them when they jump in so i'm going to put him on hiatus for now. If my reactions were better to allow more use of tornado throw i wouldn't be saying this but it's my own lack of dexterity and timing that causes me to suffer when using him.

So, considering i'm rubbish at charge characters, who would people recommend i tried experimenting with to diversify my game? I don't think it will suddenly make me a better player, but i'm fed up of people jumping in at me and having no way of keeping them at bay.

Well the parts are on order and the electronics are done so I just need the drill bits and that's it. Soldering to the legs on buttons/switches is childs play though, and I expected to have a much harder time soldering to the 1mm points on the pad as it was my first time soldering.

I imagine building a decent shell is harder than all the electronics but I just don't have the space (student digs) or funds at the moment to get/use all the necessary woodworking tools.

Oh man I love Dan now lol

Dude, after those matches i so totally agree. His ultra is just hilarious.

Really surprised at how easy it is to chain combos with cammy, never used her before yet could get some impressive stuff going... this needs to be looked into.

[EDIT] Just tried sagat, cammy, gen and blanka for the first time ever, shocking that ive had the game this long and not even got around to giving them a try. Sagat sucked, gen sucked more, blanka was good but boring (hate charge characters) but thought cammy was a good laugh.

How wierd!!
I've been persevering with the French dude as you know, and I'd love to be a more skilled player with him, but it's just so much hard work playing against cammy's, giefs and blanka's.

I've gone back to my SFII roots and i'm playing Ryu. Not played him in SF4 before, when I got it I was a ken player, then Akuma briefly for the novelty of his cool Ultra and catchphrases like "I am power made flesh"!! Which always made him fun to play....

When I decided I wanted to really learn a character I chose Abel and it's been a bit of a love hate relationship.

I've finally picked Ryu and believe it or not I'm only now just getting into 1000 odd BP's!! 700 was my best with Abel and I still don't have the 'win 10 in a row trophy'.
Things are looking up with Ryu and it's a slow start changing my style completely but the future's orange :)

Give me a shout Street and we'll spar with our new 'mains' :)

On that note, to everyone else... I just missed the league and I haven't gotten to play too many of you, if anyone fancies adding a poor but enthusiastic and improving player my PSN is below :)

Just had a bit of a sesh with Beeneh, was good fun :)

There was a clear improvement from both of us during the games we played (16 or so i think) but I'm still very basic. Not many combo's linking my super and Ultras... A few but rare, they were mainly used during the crumple phase after a focus attack.

Hardly any poking going on, just relying on good timing and goading to punish mistakes.
Still trying to get used to exactly what benefits EX versions of specials have (armour, through projectiles etc) at the moment, very early days.

Think I'm off to training for a bit, see what I can come up with, but any advise will be humbly accepted :)

@ Beeneh, Although I won the games we got pretty close the majority of the time, as above I'm not in a brilliant position to give advise but if you hadn't let me get away with a few basics so often the scores would have been different I'm sure.
Early in the games I could throw you at will, however, to be fair towards the end most throw attempts got me filled full of jabs :D
The other big thing that lost you a lot of energy was jumping into me. You were possibly out of range for a dragon (I don't really know!!) but I could sweep you on landing 80% of the time. You need to either distance them slightly better or be sure to have a crouching block as soon as you're grounded.

Hope that doesn't sound at all patronising, definately not meant that way, I just enjoyed the games and thought I'd chip in.
GG's dude, we'll do it again soon

generally speaking EX moves are used for their priority, extra damage or special properties (some ex moves recover quicker, or cover more distance etc.)

for instance:
ryu can use his ex fireball or ex hurricane in the corner to combo into his ultra
ryu can use his ex fireball to go through regular fireballs to go through regular projectiles

some ex moves can juggle airbourne opponents where a normal special move wouldn't such as when ryu knocks someone out of the air, he can get an ex fireball to combo on their way down.

another good opportunity to use ex moves is for punishment since you know its gonna hit so its more free damage. his ex hurricane is good for this, such as a simple c.mk, ex hurricane

ryu's ultra pretty makes his anti air game insane, if he knocks someone out of the air with lp dragon punch, he can combo it into his ultra whether he trades hits or not (lol :D)

When it comes to abel its all about priority with EX moves, his tornado throw in EX flavour for example is actually a higher priority than most ultras, even zangiefs! It also cancels out of some of his own special moves which can be useful if the enemy *thinks* they've caught you with your pants down.

Experimenting with Cammy and Gouken atm, both have potential but i just feel like i'm starting from scratch again :(

I'm leaning that way, abel had skills that allowed him to deal with shoto characters but no air defence. Cammy has great air defence but no meant to approach a shoto without jumping (as i noticed against you playing sagat) which leaves her well open to anti-air.

Gouken seems to have a bit of everything. He also has a very easy but incredibly punishing lead in to a super, takes away like 1/4 of their health and there's not much chance of making a mistake.
