as part of my MSCSA qualification i was down to do the XP exam, but was informed by my trainer i could swap to VISTA and also gain an extra MS qualification something like 'enterprise technician'

sat the exam had 64 questions and pulled in 96% very pleased, a lot of people will say it's easy but some of the questions were fairly in depth and i would have failed without putting in the study for sure...

sham vista is about to go the way of ME with windows7 :p but prefed to do the vista to xp.

so what's next then server2003 or networking :(

Congrat's, I wouldnt worry about the whole Vista > Windows 7 thing anyway, I thought Windows 7 is a lot like vista (just more resource friendly with a few extra features bunged in, and a few removed) so it shouldn't be too hard learning the bits then taking the Windows 7 exam once it is out. :)

Yeah, W7 is basically the same as Vista (as in everything is in pretty much the same place etc.), with some differences of course. My guess is if you took a W7 test straight off you'd pass considering you did 96% on the Vista one :)

Congrats dude. Its the MCSE no? What is the actual exam code? I could do with getting an MCSE sorted, although I have no job so I'm stuff on getting experience. :(

I know if I do the 70-270 I get MCP status and that can count towards the MCSE. :)

Oh and only 96%? Pah! :p

I'd love to do one of these or something similar but I literally don't have the time between a full time job and a degree. :(

work said they would pay for some MS training even though i don't directly need it for my job, part of my personal development. I crafted it to get as many titles :D

070-271 - Supporting Users and Troubleshooting a Microsoft® Windows® XP Operating System - Made me a MCP

070-272 - Supporting Users and Troubleshooting Desktop Applications on a Microsoft® Windows® XP Operating System - with the above combined made me a MCDST (desktop technician)

then today the Vista one (070-620) makes me a Enterprise Techy instead of a technology specialist or the other way round... basically because of the other two it ups this one. But i can't confirm until Microsoft update my stats.

i think i need to take two more one in server2003 and networking to get the MSCSA (system admin)

hope that helps mate

I've got my 70-620 Vista client exam booked for the 6th of April

I'm using the Microsoft Vista 'Configuring Windows Vista Client' self-paced training kit along with the CBT Nugget videos to get prepared :)

Question how many questions were you asked for these joint exams?

What percentage did you get on passing?

Here are some more courses you could take I am in the middle of doing a few more of these myself hence why these pics are taking from my own online microsoft exams.

keep meaning to book my sms and sccm exams but really can't be bothered as the test centre is miles away. Really must do them soon.

if you kind of know your subjects, ie vista, xp, apps, 2003 then following the course book and then using certfiles.com or something else and hammering the test papers should be enough. something like networking or exchange for me would take a lot more time and training as i just don't use them enoough. the secret is learning to do things the MS way or as they put it "with the least amount of administrative effort"

my first mock vista exam i bagged 50% clearly by the end of the week i had almost doubled that. it helps if you know your subject as i'm sure you do mate, so doing the exams that i mentioned before will get you some good qualifications and not a great deal or effort because these are things we use day in day out.

my background is - kicked out of school at 15 and heavily dyslexic not ever done and study or exams before. so i reckon anyone who knows what there doing on xp / vista can 'learn' the ms way and get some good qualifications

Well done you passed and the Windows 7 still called as Vista R2 but 50% of Vista core kernel will using in W7 plus rest of it will be new features under Windows 7...

Course book? Is that the "official" book that MS produce for the MCSA? Not heard of certfiles.com. Free to use? I'm in a ruddy chicken and egg situation. I need an MCSE to get me the job I want but to get the job I want I need an MCSE. I'm hoping that I can try and get the MCSE using my skills and books and so on to compensate for my lack of job/experience. :p

Have I got you on MSN? Might want to pester you for more information. :)

i'm sure you can buy the books as a lot of people self study then just pay the £90 for the exam. i'm happy to lend you the ones i have for the exams i passed. I understand your situation mate, it's a tough one, but the industy does love the MS qualifications. www.ceftfiles.com is a list of old exams for most companies that run exams, they are all previous test questions i but i found a good 50% came up in the exam.. some are in pdf format but most use a proggy that you can download and trail for free or pay $20 for the full simulator, however my tutor was advising people to download and use a keygen but i won't mention that on here :p

not on msn mate, but have gmail email/chat so feel free to contact me info in trust.

I went through a bad relationship when I was 29 I was working as a production manager (now 38)...had to leave the lady I was with and also left my job...moved back home (with the parents) ...anyway I had enough with dead end jobs...I am a bright person did very well at school just didn't give a damn what kind of job I did at the time when I left school.

So I got off my ass and did a NVQ level 1,2 & 3 in IT. Nothing special just installation, computer setup & networking this was done a a place called sitec training which was run in Manchester and it was free at the time. Sadly sitec was funded by the government and they stopped funding the courses which sitec couldn't pay for themselves so had to close its doors.

After this I paid my own way in college and did a Diploma/BCS in IT a 2 year course, I was out of working at this time still so the goverment helped me with funding (again something they don't do anymore).

I did some part time work here and there and then paid my own way again did my MCSDT followed by my MSCE both online. These courses are with Microsoft but the online course itself is with a company called Mindleaders. In between these I have also done a citrix systems exam something I can remember doing but can't remember what I actually did ...so just hope I don't get asked anything on this subject...lol

It's always good to start from the beginning because you might think you know it all but when coming down to it when asked a certain question you will get stuck and you will look daft in the process. Though we all might think we know everything in what we do we still ask others for help and advice. We wont and cant remember everything we did in the course so don't worry if you answer it incorrect because I am sure you will get another chance.

You paid say

£30 for the books, £20 for the online simulator & £90 for the exam.

Both my MCDST 70-271 & 272 online course and exams cost me a total of £585.

You got a good deal there.
