Complete build for about £600

Hi all, making my sister a PC as an 18th present from my parents and was just after some input. So far ive come up with this:

She's not into games really, but she is heading off to uni to study medicine so it has to be able to run anything that might throw up.

Ideally looking at around £600 give or take including OS, monitor and accessories as shown.

Ive opted for an intel over an AMD, is this the best idea?

i would change the hard drive to a seagate. apart from that it looks fine but...

I would go AMD. Something like:

Phenom II X3 720 CPU
Asus/Gigabyte 780g Motherboard

Keep the rest of the specs the same. Personally I would leave out the graphics card as the onboard graphics will suffice if not gaming, use the money for better speakers. (Gigaworks or similar)

Change the OS to Vista basic 64bit to use the full 4GB ram. (same price as 32bit)

change the OS to 64-bit, so the full 4Gb of ram can be utilised.

Stick with Intel, they're the best. AMD have went down-hill in the last few years.


Splash out a little bit on the mouse and keyboard, makes the fininshed computer look a lot better,
