First 1GHz+ card ever

AMD’s RV790 will probably be remembered as the first GPU that will easily overclock to over 1GHz core clock.

Some partners will ship overclocked cards but 900+ MHz should be the fastest clock out of the box which with some little help of the overdrive tool, you might get the chance to go over the magical 1000MHz barrier.

With water-cooling, we might be getting over 1000MHz easier, but we are not sure if the high clock should be enough to beat GTX 275. Nvidia’s partners will of course overclock their GTX 275 cards and again give AMD a run for its money.

Nvidia’s 1000MHz+ clock will have to wait for 40nm we reckon.

i reckon they'll be up to slow CPU speeds by 32nm.

ATI also released, iirc, the first 1gb card back in 2005. The X800 1gb. Remember reading about the card in a comp mag at the airport.

Clockspeeds aren't everything.

Nobody's saying they are, the ability to make a fast card even faster is what's good about this, given it's a reasonably significant increase in clock speed. Y'know, that whole overclocking thing this site's named after. :p

Perhaps ironically, AMD were the first to 1GHz with CPU too. Hopefully we will see some overclocked skus with 1GHz as standard and warranty to back it up. Graphics cards seem to die more easily than any other part, probably because of heat.

Storage/optical drives are the most susceptible to errors in my experience.

i have been playing with a card due to be released that does indeed clock very high

i think everyone will be mightily impressed when the card in question is released

I don't have a clue what you're on about... :o

Care to elaborate? ;) :D

its my old VooDoo

im going to bring it into work and sell it to the highest bidder ;)

but the risk of slapped wrists looms if i say too much

Just out of interest, if 'we' (non-shop forum members) post stuff about hardware still under NDA, nothing can happen right as we haven't signed anything as it were?
