Opinions on the above please.

I like racing games, especially easy to pick and play games (simple controls) and atmospheric graphics and a sensation of speed/ acceleration:)

It's a fun game with crazy drifting and a great sense of speed.

If you've not tried it, you should also check out Trackmania United, which I think has everything you want with masses of replay-ability due to downloadable tracks, different vehicle classes and a massive online following.

I was very disappointed by this, feels a bit like a simplistic arcade game and times have moved on from then. Steering at high speed seems a bit too easy.

I also found it to be incredibly unstable.

Its a great old school racer, If you remember the original Arcade Out Run its basically an update but you can unlock all the original tunes and cars from the older Out Run games which is neat. Its great fun in the short term but dont expect to be playing it in six months time.

I thought it was horrible, it was way way way too simplistic, even for an arcade game. Handling was just stupid and was no fun after about 2 minutes. Plus it did crash a fair bit.

I just got it on steam for £4.99 well worth it!

I recommend it to you guys for that price and for pick up and play.

This.

Its superb looks ok plays like the arcade machine and has some very cheerful tunes. Well worth buying especially now as it runs very fast on modern PC's.

Also SEGA Rally is another superb looking and easy to play arcade racer on the PC as well (looks a lot better than Outrun 2006).

Its a great game, its outrun.

Unstable..? its your machine, not the game, I have had it installed since it came out and its never crashed, not once.

Must have played it about 100 times.

First time i played it the sound was ultra high pitched and squeeky, then it gave a blue screen. Was the first game ever to give my pc a blue screen. (and also last before i uninstalled) Cars handled like crap too.

Get something good like GRID

Yep, that's the exact problem I had, it would be running OK, then it would start to run really slowly with high pitched screeching before bluescreening. I suspect it may have been an incompatibility with soundcard drivers (I was using an Audigy 2 at the time I think... you?) but either way I got fed up with it crashing my PC. To be honest it's probably the most unstable game I've played under Windows, although of course people with different hardware configurations may have had no issues. In recent years, the only one which comes close is Bet On Soldier.

Googling seems to suggest that we're certainly not alone and that disabling hardware acceleration for the soundcard may be required.

great game update of the most popular/succesfull arcade driving game of the 1980s....sega were there pioneer in foot to the floor racing,A-B in the fastest time...outrun coast to coast is great on all formats...its not meant to be a serious arcade racer like its 1986 predecessor...serious racers of the 1980s was probably the Hard drivin series...serious racers nowadays are the gran turismo series;)

magical sound shower is probably one of the best ingame tunes ever written

yep, ive got audigy 2zs. I tried new open al driver, new audigy drivers and disabling hardware acceleration. I then gave up because i could play better games that work!

I don't know what the problem is with your computers but I am able to run the game perfectly fine whilst still using an old SoundBlaster Live! 5.1 PCI card. Definately some wierd driver issue then.

As for the game itself, it is a great port containing the two Arcade versions of the game, the original and SP editions. Just a shame theres not a lot of people online for it, assuming you can even get it to work in the first place. Controls are really twitchy though it is pretty usual for ports of SEGA Arcade racers, even Daytona and SEGA Rally (Original, second and even Revo) had these issues.

P.S. Shiny World is the best track ever :D.
