I'm almost at the point of getting rid of it, why on earth is there no option to auto delete / quarantine / anything for the Guard process? If a dodgy banner pops up on a website i get multiple pop ups asking me what to do and no sooner do i select delete on each one it pops up again. Whats worse is it locks the IE window till all popups are responded too. Took me about 20 attempts to change the page i was on earlier. Am i being stupid or is this the only way it works?

The easiest solution would probably be to disable the Internet shield, use Firefox, Opera or Chrome and relax :p.

yes, you're being stupid, no, this isn't the only way it works.

a MUCH better way would be to stop using IE and Avira, and start using FF/Chrome/Opera and Avast! which has a fully functional internet scanner, which works in a sensible way. in my MANY years of using Avast!, it's never failed to protect my system from nasties.

Using Opera with the fabled Admuncher I never see a popup so I've never suffered these symptoms. You could try the same, or use Firefox in conjunction with Adblock. If you insist on using IE you could try IE7PRO, a set of extensions for IE including......Adblock.

LOL at all the anti IE. It isnt a problem with IE its an issue with Avira and the way it reacts to adverts on the side of a web page. I like IE, i've tried other ones and don't like them as much.

As the original post says, can you change the way Avira works?

I'll have a look when i get home but im not sure i have that option, the image shows the premium version while im on the free.

When I was using Avira, I didn't have the problem that you're experiencing due to not receiving any pop-ups. Instead of changing a setting in Avira, maybe we can try and sort out the real problem which is the pop-ups.

I wouldn't necessary agree with the few people that are advising to change web browsers. You can quite easily use IE without receiving any pop-ups. I have been using Internet Explorer for quite a long time now and I can't remember the last time I got a pop-up.

Have you set the pop-up setting to high in Internet Explorer?

If you're still getting pop-ups on some of the websites you visit, then you could try IE7 Pro as RatBag has suggested.
