Posty arrived with something special - watch content

Thanks for the update on your epeen.

 You're no better than the complaints you made about him with posts like that.

Just don't take disagreements of opinion as insults, it's inevitable that people will disagree, just take it or leave it.

Please see his 'opinion' which of course it isnt,

he had a go at me, i took him up on it, he seemed to take that very much to heart and went on about it, im not sad to see him stop, or do you think his comment above ok?

Not quite my cup of tea, i prefer the da36. I appreciate the thread as i may be looking for a new watch and havn't heard of this maker before and in a few months may start looking around. Currently have a Speedy and understand why you prefer a quality mechanical time piece rather than a £20 watch from Argos, necklace, ring etc.

Here is my Speedy.

thats a lovely speedy, keep meaning to try one myself :)

my 'good' watch is an iwc portuguese chrono and i would highly recommend it if you are looking for a dressier watch?

I think you will find it was bell ends and knob jockeys :)

hehe sorry i didnt mean that you labelled them trolls i meant that you labelled some of the trolls,

what you labelled was of course the items quoted :D

Most watches come with a standard 2 year warranty, i.e rolex, omega etc, what is your point?

My point is that an high quality, precision made instrument should be capable of working reliably for more than 2 years, particularly if (a) I'm expected to pay almost £2k for it, and (b) the cost of any repairs will be equally prohibitive.

I'm sure it's a great watch (though I don't like the design) and the leather strap is a nice touch (though you will need to replace it after a few years) but I just can't see any justification for the expense.

I wear a stainless steel Seiko with a metal band. I bought it for £120 in 1999 and it's still going strong (except for the date function, which has finally died). I don't mind repairing it because it's a damn good watch and the timekeeping function has never let me down. I just can't comprehend the "designer label" mentality.

The steel hardening process is patented and is quite interesting to me but maybe not to you:

The entire watch case, including hardened crown and pushers is designed, engineered, and machined at our factory near Regensburg. Until the end of 2002 we supplied our cases to a well known German watch brand but from now on these cases will only be available through Damasko.
After the special heat treatment mentioned above our steel reaches a maximum hardness of 62 Rockwell which makes it superbly scratch-resistant. You have to search hard to find a common household item ( apart from a sapphire nail-file or a brick) that is able to scratch the case.
Due to its superior performances this steel was mainly created for aeronautical uses.

Actually, I did find it interesting. My father used to work at a manganese ferroalloy plant owned by BHP Billiton, so I am familiar with various aspects of metal processing and I appreciate the innovation that Damasko has brought to their work. I am particularly pleased by the fact that they use German steel, which is among the best in the world.

However, this only makes it harder to understand why their warranty only lasts for two years. After several paragraphs of guff and bluff about how amazing their watches are and how superb the quality is, they finally concede that they can only guarantee reliable function for 2 years.

Can you not see the irony here?

again i make the point that no watch maker that i know of offers greater than 2 years, not rolex, not omega etc etc. it is the industry norm so i can undestand why damasko do not offer longer. Also no matter what technologies are used on the bezel, case, crown etc, the weakest link will always remain the movement as with any automatic watch :)

do you mean you would expect a bracelet or a different leather strap? i have changed the strap to a thicker hirsch myself :) damasko dont do a bracelet, one has been in development for ages but god knows when it will appear!

Nice watch mate, from a fellow Damasko owner (DA36).

I'm wearing mine on a NATO at the moment, though I have a nice matt black leather strap on order from Toshi - I suspect a Toshi would suit yours too. :)
