Windows 7 7068 First impressions

PB seems to have problems with Windows 7 as it's still a beta Evenbalance aren't supporting it. Is that likely to change once it becomes a RC opposed to Beta?

I'd say Windows 7 support will come, but not until it goes RTM, ie it is actually released. However I could be proven wrong...

You don't have to visit the type of site you're talking about, there are other places and ways.

Ok sounds good, so long as it won't get either of us a warning or ban, would you care to offer a few clues perhaps? or have you been subtly hinting in the post itself perhaps?

Re those type of sites - my younger brother uses them a lot, is riddled with spyware, viruses and who knows what else, I do not let anything that's been connected to his pc anywhere near mine - I'm very paranoid about this, he is young but he will not learn ;)

Gonna install 7068 tonight. Never had my own install of Vista to play with, let alone Windows 7 so looking forward to it as almost everyone seems to really like it. Do i just install Vista drivers or am i being dense?

The vast majority of Vista drivers will work, yes. For the odd thing I found I needed to set compatibility mode for Vista first for it to work, but most just run. It seems to be the case that some apps/drivers do an OS version check before install, and refuse to run when they detect Win7. Set it to Vista and that requirement is met.

Win7 actually has most drivers already, and more available from Windows Update. TBH I'd stick with those, as in most cases they're more appropriate than the 'real' ones (at least while Win7 is in beta).

Left 4 Dead has some stuff missing in 7 using the actual drivers from DELL on my laptop, using 7s drivers themselves it runs fine :)

With regards to PB, does it just refuse to update in 7 or does it refuse to work altogether? Updating problems = Manual update. Problem solved ;)

Guru said he was getting kicked left right and centre due to PB errors in COD4, and when googled lots more people were having similar issues.

I haven't made the switch yet because I play a lot of COD4, and want it to work :p

is it worthwhile upgrading/updating from 7000 to 7068?

Also, i use programs like VMware, ProDiscover and Visual Studio 2005 a lot, will they be affected by "updating"?

Have they made any changes to the task bar since 7000? I really don't like not being able to tell if an app is running by looking at the icon. Also it takes more clicks to start another copy of something, compared to the old Quick Launch bar.

Could you try running COD4 in Compatability mode? Therefore it might launch pb in that way?

Not sure, I haven't got Win 7, just going off what others have said experienced. However when it reaches RC I'll be testing it out.

it's REALLY REALLY REALLY easy to click the little arrow to open the little icon box, select "customise" and CHOOSE which application icons you want in the corners :D

I think RobK is referring to the new SuperBar or whatever it's called, whereby you click (for example) IE and it opens, but once minimised you have to hover over it to see if it's actually running?

Personally I just restored the Quick Launch and after a few tweaks my taskbar looks identical to Vista.
