Hi everyone,

I am looking at either building a new desktop or purchasing an IMac (24 inch, 2.66Ghx Dual Core for £1055). Budget is about £1000 (including monitor). Ideally I would like to have 2 monitors (I think 2 monitors increases productivity). I would be grateful if you could cast your eye over the following setup and suggest improvements and/or similar parts at a cheaper price :).

Also, do OCUK offer student discount :).

Thanks everyone,

Andy

everything looks good, the q6600 is good if you do a lot of 3dwork and video editing but if its just gaming and office work sort of applications the you would be better off going for a faster dual core say e8400

Hi,

Thanks for your quick reply.

It would make sense if I said what I use the computer for :).

I primarily want to use the computer for internet browsing, office applications, Java programming and possibly some light gaming such as COD 4 (that is why I opted for the ATI 4850 Gfx card). Also, if possible the PC should be silent (almost).

Thanks,

Andy

If you want to do any sort of gaming then an iMac isn't the way to go at all and your better off with the system you have spec'd yourself

Based upon the suggestions, I now have the following setup. It also contains 2 monitors for ~£1000 :-D. I have also opted for a LianLi case as I like the all aluminium look. Should I change the monitors to a different brand/model? £200 per monitor seems expensive. Also, is a 550watt PSU sufficient?
