ATI's current plan is to introduce first 40nm desktop chip in the week of May 4th but at this point, there is no any fixed date. This card is meant to compete with Geforce 9800GT the card that was supposed to be renamed to GTS 240 but it didn’t and according to our sources HD 4770 ends up faster of two.

From those slides we can determine the card works at 750MHz, too, which is 100MHz faster than the Guru3D review showed. It's a bit worrying that it needs a dual slot heatsink and a PCI-E connector, given it's a new 40nm part, though.

Problem is that it's going to be $99 or £100 - £130 over here if same price as a 9800gt :(

And the performance is less than a 4850???

Actually, it could be the same or even a little faster, considering Guru3D's review which showed the card at 650MHz (it's launching at 750MHz) only slightly slower than a 4850.

You've been able to get the cheapest 9800gt's for about £85 here on OCUK for a bit now. I'd expect this to fall quickly into line with that kind of pricing.

It really all comes down to the pricing, although the market conditions will make it difficult to achieve :S

How much of the market is UK Sales anyway? Its quite possible that ATI might forgoe the UK market and release at the £~135-140 mark in order to keep their projected sales and profit in the rest of EU and the US..
I mean, surely they couldnt sell it for much less then $99 ? which as mentioned puts it in the £130 bracket with out weak pound :(

$99 coiming in at £130? god no. exchange rate is saying less than £70 at $100USD we should not pay more than £80 if any eTailer in the uk had a stroke of morality. even if say they did have unusually high buy in costs, more than £90 would just be pure greed. I know ocuk have a pretty bad rep for inital fleasing but i cant even see them being insane enough to chard anywhere near £130...

£130 - out of your mind.

A straight exchange from $99 to GBP at the current exchange rate is £68 + VAT = £78. Realistically we're looking at more £85-£90. It also annoys me when everyone's like "Ohh the card's gonna be so expensive! I'm just waiting for the retailers to rip us off!" Because that just gives them an excuse to! You should be damned ****ed off when the time comes and it's almost twice as much as it should be!
