It has been confirmed that America's Army 3 will be available on Steam when the game is released. "One of the things the first two iterations of the game taught the developers is that they need to make the game as easy to find, download and install as possible." said Marsha Berry, senior executive producer of America's Army.

Berry continued to say that the game will also limit the account system to a single sign on as well as allowing players to create multiple soldiers on a single account. "One of the big things we heard was that players like customization. We have a lot of customization on how you can load down your character."

America's Army 3 is the next version of the F2P (free-to-play) America's Army series, a tool used by the American Army to help recruit new soldiers. The game will include mavity affecting weapon fire, ricochet effects, the ability to switch easily between gameplay and training, tactical sound and many other features. The title will be running on the more recent Unreal Engine 3 compared with America's Army 2 which is based on the Unreal Engine 2.5. Using this updated engine allows the developers to deliver more realistic environments, lighting effects and animations then previously seen with earlier versions of the game.

There is currently no set release date for the game.

I'd like to play it but I hear it has a tricky training beginning where if you have to do well just to be able to then use the multiplayer.

Thats what make it so good. The training is fairly easy and like you said as soon as it's completed you can play online.

Yeah, I loved the training aspect of it. Ecspecially the fact you could only do sniper training if you achieved a certain score on the live firing range. Spent hours trying to get it! haha.

Great news. For my money, the best FPS around by a country mile. Hopefully this will get more people playing; I've been waiting for 3 for bloody ages :)

The basic training is a doddle: 10 minutes at the most. The more advanced training (to get the better equipment) can be very tricky. However, this is a totally new game, so everyone starts on the same footing. If you have ever wanted to give it a try but were put off by the posh buggers with the Special Forces gear (I have 3 SF accounts, I'm a masochist) now is the time. In addition, there won't be any posh gear released for the first few months so the only advantage anyone will take into the game is their own skill :)

Thinking about it, I never even completed the special forces training. Still loved the game though, and never once put me off.

Shame they havn't mentioned a release date though :(

I don't think I could get back into AA now, I did love it in the day though.

Will be keeping an eye on this.

I think for this to do well they need to get rid of all that training rubbish! yes i know a few of you like it but from what i've experienced and heard there's more that don't and just give up on it.

Most people just want to jump straight in to a game and with so many good FPS games available where you can do this, people are just not going to put the time and effort in to training.

There was a hack for it. So much easier. :)

Around 10 million people would disagree. It's been going for over 7 years; there are plenty of people prepared to go through "that training rubbish".

If you have given it a good try, and don't like it, fairy snuff, but it would appear you haven't. It is quite possible to jump in and play, there are even maps dedicated to just that.

As for the training, yes, the more advanced stuff isn't for everyone, but you don't need it to play. Personally, I think it adds a great deal to the game. If you want to play a class, you have to earn it. If you don't want to, it is still easy enough to play another class, hell, you can still pick up the cool guns [off the dead SF players] and use them regardless of training.

At the end of the day, it's a very popular game. If there are those that CBA to do the training, well, don't let the door hit you on the arse on the way out to some generic crap like CoD4. We do just fine thanks :)

Awesome! I spent the entire summer of 06 playing bridge in a clan :p I was even given an admin position lmao, which was great fun. Then i got a pc with a gfx card and got bf2 and kind of forgot about aa. Will my aa account still work with aa3? Took ages to complete all the training, and would be slightly annoying to have to do it all over again. Mind you, i never got round to the stinger missle training stuff anyway left the game before then.

AA3 is a completely new game. Everyone will have to start at the basic training level. All ranks, unlocks and scores will be zero'ed. A PITA for those of us that have put time into getting the unlocks, but there you go :) It's the same for everyone.

There will be no Special Forces training or unlocks on release (they will be added later, as in AA2). You can reserve your name if you have an old account, but that is the only thing that you can carry over to AA3.

This may sound daft but I am assuming there was / is an AA2?

I only had a go on the first.

Edit : too tired now, just read about the second version...
