America's Army 3 coming to Steam

I'll be keeping an eye out if they do end up releasing an updated version of America's Army. I would play one of the parachute maps assaulting an airbase for hours, and loved the realistic sound and weapon effects. Just a pity that the rest of the maps felt a bit too much like Counterstrike.

I thought the training was brilliant, nothing else was like it and it only rewarded you the class if you bothered or were good enough to complete the relevant training.
I remember struggling to complete that Special Forces Night exercise.

Bit disappointed that last year I went back to the game to find that the training had been re-vamped, and the initial marksmanship exercise which was pretty challenging to progress onto sniper training now could be completed with 49-50/50 successful hits first time round.

Aye. That upset a few people. It became very easy to get the required points. We still had the E&E to separate the men from the boys, though ;)

i couldnt even get past the training, the guards at the tower spotted me everytime no matter how i went about it.

might try this though as it sounds pretty good :)

Awesome, First game I played in a proper Clan played for 2 years I think before Source was released.

There is a closed beta on the go if your a member of fileplanet, I started on the training last night.. Gak! not easy. 17/40 hits for the rifle range even tho im positive I hit at least 30 :(

Yes! there was nothing better than lying behind that tree on mountain and twatting people with the m24. Cant wait for this.

Looking forward to this and i used to play AA quite a lot. Was going to redownload the one that is currently out now but their whole download system is a bit rubbish.

Will definatly use steam to download and play once this has come out. :D

I must have my head in the sand.. I didn't even realise there is an AA2 :) I loved AA when it was first released. It got daft after that, what with the needing to train for stuff etc. At first it was a novelty, then just got boring. :)

EDIT: and it's going to be pants. "Unlocks".. yeah.. just gimme the damn weapons for christ's sake.

I quite liked the training aspect. If anything, it kept the casual "pick up and frag" crowd out of the game, and ensured that most of the community favored slow-paced, mature, tactical play.

The same thing bugs me about the people who hope that Arma2 and OPF2 will be "like Battlefield 2".

The standard training that you had to do at the start was easy, i dont see who could have a problem with that. The special forces training was a little tricky but such a relief after you had done it and so cool when playing in game. The honour system also worked quite well and gave it a sense of direction.

I remember playing the rifle training level at the start (i think it was the first time i played it and it was on a demo of the game), "Load one 30 round magazine, commence FIRE !" :D

The gameplay itself was sort of similar to counter strike in the sense that when you died, you had to sit out the round. A good variety in the levels too. ;)

I didn't mind the initial training, even if it was pot-luck for the long range shots (targets smaller than your rifle's deviation..)

After that it was just boring. The special forces training involved playing and winning.. er, lolwhut?

I think for this to do well they need to get rid of all that training rubbish! yes i know a few of you like it but from what i've experienced and heard there's more that don't and just give up on it.

Most people just want to jump straight in to a game and with so many good FPS games available where you can do this, people are just not going to put the time and effort in to training.

I disagree, the training is what made the game memorable for me. I liked it.

If people want to jump in and fight, they can always buy CSS, CoD4, or similar.

UE3 engine though .
Please drop the deferred lightning or make a dx10 version. No AA is LAME.

AA works just fine on every UE3 engine title I've tried with DX9 (WinXP), you just force it in CCC (I'm pretty sure the same applies to the nvidia control panel).

Not sure why games developers don't just put an option in-game to enable AA since it works perfectly fine when forced by the driver; I'm guessing because only newer cards support it. That said, Mirror's Edge, a UE3 title has AA options in game.

I personally don't mind it being on the UE3 engine. Still looks good, runs great on current GPUs, has decent multi-core support and you know it's gonna be supported and improved upon for a long time to come.

BTW, is this game gonna be free or what? (Nevermind)
