I really want a cheap and cheerful sportscar for blasting around in, but my narrow minded ways are stopping me getting one.

It annoys me that it gets the "Girls Car" label, because it really does look like a great little car.

Should i stop being an idiot and just get one?

Question is, do i get a super cheap one for use as a weekend car. Or spend some more and replace my current car.

That's up to you and how much you want to spend. I did the former. Driving an MX5 daily on my crappy commute would skewer my enjoyment of the car.

The mk1 MX5s are more raw and classic sportcar-like than the new ones, which are still good though!

What's your current car?

Fiat Stilo. Hardly a great car, but i do like it. Id be sad if i got rid of it.

Unlike Howard I went for the latter, the MK2 is a little more refined and better to drive as a daily driver. My commute to work is only 6 miles each way so its easily do-able.

Edit - By the way Howard your MX5 looked awesome in the meet pics :)

Whereas I went and got a mk1 MX5 as my daily with hard bilstein shocks and lowered stiffer springs. :p Though it's comfy in comparison to my last daily car, the Dolomite with a tight bucket seat!

Thanks Crizzy :) Yeah for a daily driver I'd recommend a MK2 or MK3. The mk1 is a great driver's car but the lack of refinement and general comfort isn't great for cold wet winter commutes etc ;)

Keep the Stilo for daily slogging. Get an MK1 MX5 as a toy :)

I would really like to do this, but im worried about insurance costs. I pay quite a lot for it on my stilo, and unless stating low mileage on an mx5 bought the price WAAY down, im not sure if i could run 2 cars.

The Mk1 Mx-5's are awesome little machines. I've driven all 3 versions of the Mx-5 and a 2007 Rx-8 and i can safely say the mk1 was the most fun out of them all. It feels just like a baby 1993 Rx-7.

There is lots of fun to be had in these
