Killed me SAAB today at mid day going down our local drag strip (M69) ;D
Been shopping for summit fast & fun, Looked at an Old Scooby an Old EVOII & a Saxo VTR
Although I like the Evo the best I think I will go for the Saxo as it is a Lot cheaper not only to buy but to run & to repair. I am expecting repairs as this is just a toy & to be thrashed & enjoyed. On the test run it was Mental, It runs 205's so sticks to the road like crap to a horse hair blanket. :D Not really a top end car but definately a good little street racer from 0 - say 90ish which is Perfect for round these parts.

The Evo was Monsterous, 300bhp & more grip than a power lifter  Kin thing hurts you when you proper push it round the bendy bits  I want it but my mate who owns it likes it to much & wants too much money for it at the mo, Maybe I'll be able to nick it off him in the future.

Old Scooby, Well that was just an Old Scooby, On another day I may have been tempted but next to the Evo it just didn't get me going. On a side note my mate who owns it is a Complete mad man & goes out drifting on a weekly basis & taking on one of his cast offs can be a bit costly. :p

Anyway heres a pic of the Saxo VTR whoopassmakemefeel17againrollerskate

Needs a damn good clean & it looks like the bonnet is off a different motor to me, No crash damage anywhere though.
Thoughts ?

SAAB Loss = Screen price was 675, I kicked him down to 475 but after getting a noise from the engine kicked that down to 300 quid. Sold my Jeep for 150 quid the same day so I am down 150 quid, These things happen & I must say I am taking it well. ;D
It was far to slow & gives me the best excuse to buy myself summit faster & more fun.

WTF is going on with the exhaust :/ And why has it got a poverty spec bumper (from a 1.1)?

Looks like its been abused.

I loved my VTR, but its an unwritten rule that you only buy unmolested ones, and facelifts (ph2's) are so much nicer.

Educate me Dude, I am old & know nowt about such things, Not bought it yet but have to say it drives great.
Had a new clutch last week done by another mate of mine, I rang him & he went over it & reckons it's a good car. 6 months tax on it as well, Plenty of MOT.
Help  + :p

Saxo can be a fun little thing and are nippy, that one appears to have been abused a little too far. Look out for a decent standard VTS not VTR one.

Hmmm, would have gone down the VTS route if any.

Bit of a wierd decision after looking at the evos and scoobies like!

Well it must have been involved in a front ender at some point, and repaired on a budget, as there is no possible reason for it to have a poverty bumper on it otherwise. I'd be certain to check that its not bent/battered under the bonnet.

The exhaust should be a single pipe, rather than that monsterous looking double exit thing that is currently pretruding too far from the bumper.

As I say, it looks like the car has had a rough life, and I'd be checking it over with a fine toothed comb, and wanting more cash off for the horrid front end!

I just want something Now, Fast & fun, I don't care about manufacturers badges & having a limited budget you have to look at what's available. :)
Most of my mates deal cars so it's more a matter of going round my mates seeing what they have & sniffing out a bargain.

The VTR is NOT fast though, 9.9ish to 60 is not fast for the 97-98 and the 99 on is a little better at 9.1 but still not fast. The VTS however is a nippy little thing at 7.6 and is very fun on the backroads.
another thing to watch with saxos is the the pedals are little close together so if you have big feet it takes a while to get used to it.

nice little one here looks good for the money.

Finding an abused Saxo is like trying to find a virgin prostitute. The MK5 Fiesta Zetec-S is not the fastest of cars and not as quick in a straight line as the saxo but it's better spec'd, it wont fall apart and it arguably handles better.

What are you after exactly?

All pish.

0-60 is not the be-all and end-all with these cars, cornering speed is very high, and a decent amount of poke when rolling helps them to be very fun little B-road bashers. Gilly will confirm that it wasn't possible to pull away from me in a Clio 172 when we were pressing on very hard indeed.

As for the pedal issue, this is only an issue if you have zero co-ordination of your feet. I have size 12 feet, and mainly wore Vans when I drove my saxo, so huge, wide shoes, no problems at all.

Infact the only issue for some people is the fact that the seat/wheel/pedals are not in line.

Didnt you only get the SAAB a couple of months ago? What happened to it?

Blew it up going down the M69 just past mid day today. It's now in Asda car park with it's guts all over the place contaminating the planet. I did go in to Asda customer support & they got a chap to go out there with some bags of gravel to soak it up.
I phoned my mate Jim who has the recovery vehicle but he was already in teh pub, He is going over to fetch it in the morning.

Do you now see why not everyone drives their cars at 10mpg? ;) My cars are all absolutely fine after many thousands of miles.

@Jez
Mine cost pocket money though & are disposable, gimme your motor for a month & I'll wreck it, I am an Abuser. :D

Why not calm down a bit and buy something a bit nicer which you can keep for a while though? :/

+1

That way you'll be able to afford something nice rather than blowing £500 a time on old bangers which fall apart after being abused. Otherwise you will be destined to drive crap for the rest of your life.
