Hi all,

I have just been offered a Suzuki 750 Slingshot (not 100% of the model, apart from it is a Slingshot:rolleyes:) that has been kept in a garage most of its life. 1997 reg and only has 15k on the clock. I haven't seen it yet, but was wondering what they are like?

I know it's a bit of an open question, but I haven't really got much of an idea of what they are like. Any advice about these bikes or linkys to reviews would be great.

Oh and he selling for £1200.

a slingshot AFAIK is a gsxr750. one of the first ones.

suzukis are not built to last at the best of times so i'd be wary.

not so much the engine but things like forks, wheels etc.

being an R reg i'd imagine its the one with the duckbilled pillion seat?

if so that model is very high revved and goes nowhere unless you do due to having little torque.

They are pretty much bullet proof, also the slingshot is one of the mid life models as I recall, I owned the very first model back in 1985.

OP, you could check here for the GSXR 750 family tree.

I did test one of the first slingshots with the upside down forks, and at the time it was awesome.

Reviews of the Gixxers from 96 onwards here.

Cheers M31 will have a look into this bike. TBH I think it might be a bit too much for me atm. Riding a SV650s currently and only passed in Aug :P

could also be a gsx750f, that also had slingshot carbs / slingshot logo's on it (same mill detuned)

i would steer clear if it is a gsx though as they handle really bad, i remember riding one back to back with my zzr600 and it felt slower and made the zzr feel like a all out sports bike.

a 97 would be an SRAD (Ram Air Direct).. (Came out in 96 IIRC)

The GSXR known as a slingshot was much earlier then this..

Coming from a SV650, I don't think it'll be to much at all, the low-midrange is nice and docile, and it's a smooth progression into the power (IMO), very easy to ride!..

Nice bike, if it's clean etc, I'd go for it!

It would be much like my change from a Ducati 750ss to a Kawasaki ZXR750 L2 which was the 1994 model with ram-air.

You will a much heavier bike that in my case handled almost as well but not quite. In your case it should handle a lot better unelss you've repalced the suspension on the SV.

It will be far more powerful but easy to deal with as the rush doesn't kick in until far up the rev range. Short shift and it will feel about as quick as the SV. Open it up and you'l feel like someone lit a rocket up your arse. :D

Sounds pretty good then, ill have to go and have a look at it, not sure of the year now. Plus I'm sure he said Q-reg or something, im thinking he might have meant Q plate...
