Nearly totalled a 106

I can't believe you have solid discs on that thing. My 1.3 Escort had vented discs. You need to post your brakes out before you kill someone, i've had a bit of fade due to heat but this shouldn't even be much of a problem. Do you use engine braking? If you don't i suggest you start doing so now rather than cooking your brakes

he wont have an awful lot of engine braking, its a diesel

he just needs to sort his brake fluid, and maybe the pads too, and his life will be a better place

Well it's hardly like he chose to fit them is it? They are standard equipment. If it provides adequate brake roller performance in the MOT then what's the problem? Rover will have had to go through rigorous testing before releasing the model so the brakes should be adequate by design.

Of course several big stops will kill them, but then they would a lot of cars because it's not "normal use". One emergency stop up to a roundabout is normal use so unless there are worn or faulty components the car should do it.

Manta has solid discs by the way. The brakes will never burst your eyeballs but their performance is more than adequate when they are in good condition.

Maybe relevant, Mr clarkson tunes a 216

That was actually a 1.4 (no, it wasn't me who typed the numberplate into the RAC vehicle checker :p) Didn't he say it has 105bhp? The 1.6 has 109bhp, the 1.4 has 103bhp.

As much as I like Clarkson, he's an idiot when it comes to Rovers :p
