Hi there, i want to borrow my brothers car today, but he already has it insured. Is it still possible for me to add it to my policy as well, or are you only allowed one policy per car?

Thanks, tom.

Why not get day cover, or add yourself to his policy for the day as a named driver?

You could use Day Insure, be at least as cheap as putting it on your insurance. I did this with my wife after she started driving again, no problem. If you do kill it, you could only claim on one policy though iirc.

Well what i mean is, he is covered by his own policy. I don't really want to add myself to that because it will cost them money.

I have my own policy, with a more expensive to insure car, so price will decrease when i change his car on to my own policy, so is it allowed to have it insured on my policy as well as his own.

Don't really want day cover as its like 30 quid a day and i could just add it to my current policy if its allowed?

Thanks tom.

I didn't think a car could be insured twice, as fully comp covers the car if it's stolen and then who would pay out? Both insurers?

Get him to add you to his policy and give him the pennies, do you have DOC and just drive it 3rd party?

Damn it, bell have changed DOC to only being available for over 25's. Bit annoying as I had it on my old NFU insurance when i was 17. Will just add myself to his policy now, seems simplest.

Wierd. I was allowed to spec it up on my Policy when I did a quote with them a few months ago. I'm only 20.

Yeah, i just looked and I can add it when getting a quote, but when i just phoned up I was told i had to be 25, might phone them again, as it would be usefull to have again if I can.

On a Bell quote I have atm:
Drive other car (third party only)
£39.96

Unless they remove the option when you go to pay for it? (18yo)

I've literally just taken out a Bell policy with DOC and I'm 20 - insurance certificate states it etc. so you must have been speaking to somebody who doesn't know what they're talking about.
