Fair enough, sounds to me like a rushed job tbh, surely the install of XP alone takes ~ 30mins give or take,
Why would you sit on front of the computer waiting 30 mins for it to install?
Do something else and go back when its done.

I have done these kind of favours for friends for ages, its really annoying and has to stop. Some bloke I hadnt spoken to in 2 years rung me up a few months ago asking if i can help sort his computer problems out.... Just because I did it for free once.
A chef/mechanic does not click buttons to get something done.
You click buttons and then the installer package does all the work for you.
Did i say anywhere in my post that I did this? I would quite happily go and make my dinner whilst XP loading, just the fact that when its finished IE after 30 mins, you still have work to do to set it all up, fine tune it, install all apps, drivers, windows updates (including SP3),restore users data, do final disk cleanup, defrag etc....
Your being an idiot I'm sorry, in all my years I've never meet someone with such a warped view of computer repairs, just counting the individual times that you have to sit in front of the system is the stupidest thing I've ever heard, these people are not paying just for your time (which is set by the hour in the real world), they are also paying for your skills.
Again, its not a skill.

I agree with him completely. Most of the time installing stuff on a computer is waiting, same with scanning. You're supposedly at your friends house, talk to each other, drink a beer, explain what you're doing, watch tv. etc.Your being an idiot I'm sorry, in all my years I've never meet someone with such a warped view of computer repairs, just counting the individual times that you have to sit in front of the system is the stupidest thing I've ever heard, these people are not paying just for your time (which is set by the hour in the real world), they are also paying for your skills.
It is.
do you normally get said friend to bring the whole pc around then as most of my friends expect a house visit normally.
In which case Im round theirs and not able to do something else.
the 2 year person was just an example of utter cheek of which I didnt respond to, did you not get that from my post?
/feeding the troll
Clicking Next, Ok, Finish is not a skill.
It's this thing called friendship.
I think every single person who has answered here has made the comparison between friend and acquaintance. I'm talking about teaching friends basic computer skills instead of acting like you're gods gift to windows xp.No we're not just talking about friendship. The OP is talking about colleagues, people who aren't that good a friends... and the disucssion led form there. Apparently only you seem to be talking "just" about family and best friends, which is probably why you're making such an arse out of yourself.
Your taking things out of context and your being very very pedantic, they are not paying for you just to click next or finish, they are paying for you to complete the whole job which requires you to set-up the system correctly which is something that 'they' (the costumer/friend/collogue) does not understand how to do, which is why they are coming to you to use your skills to fix the problem.

Unfortunate school brat? Interesting terminology. I think we'll just have to agree to disagree. You can live in cloud cuckoo land... i'll live in the real world... and we'll all live happily ever after.![]()
