Finally got a job! =D

It most certainly is, this is what used to be like here:

Where are you planning to live, I would suggest Richmond or Ealing.

Woah! Pretty interesting architecture on the golden strip! LOL! Do you know how old GSK house is roughly?

Really chuffed for you, well done! :D

Thanks so much for your help! :D:D:D

Just down the road from me in Ealing, there's a lot of nice new developments in Brentford too...you'll enjoy it here!

I didn't get to explore much of Brentford. My brother lived in Tooting Bec where I stayed overnight before the interview so had to get a bus to Charing Cross Railway and then a train to Brentford. I ended up arriving an hour early, went into a sandwich bar close to the railway in Brentford, had some om nom nom, walked through the 'park' at the back of GSK house and then just chilled out in there for a while. Brentford seemed pretty nice from what I saw hehe.

In terms of housing, there are 2 other mates from my uni course who have also got in GSK, we are all in different departments but will be living together, and maybe from the open day we can get another person or two to live with us. I'll have a look at Ealing; you guys seem to be recommending it quite a bit! =D Thankyoooo!

Okay, would be cool if OCUK crew could meet up! :D Ah! Sounds cool! Congrats on getting it! I take you you had your interview at GSK house?

My interview was at the Stevenage site, which is very nice :). I know a couple of people from Loughborough who have got into GSK house so say hi if you meet them:)

£15k is a well paid placement, toward the top of the scale.

You'd think it would put a bit of cash away for your final year, but it doesn't, your costs are a lot higher than as a student.

15k is indeed a well paid one. I got a measly 11.5k for mine, was a struggle to break even by the end :(

Really!? I will say Hi but I'm not going to go round asking if anyone knows 'Arsey' LOL!

Exactly, especially living in London. I'm not too fussed though :)

haha, one of my uni friends has got that same position herself, small world!

Congrats :)

Thanks Welshy! Woah! In the same department!? :o This is damn crazy!!! :D

It's pretty good but when I go out I never go out in Ealing, too much "Brup brup" and all that crap on the Broadway, I usually hit Angel or the City. Ealing to Brentford cycle or bus goes direct.

Some good pubs though in the area but in terms of decent nightlife it's not quite as good. The beauty is the night buses getting home at 4am from London :P

Ha true! Ask for Ryan :). I think GSK house take on quite a lot of placement students so there shouldn't be a problem finding somewhere to live with other students.

OT a little, but does anybody know off hand what happens with student finance when on an official placement year on a sandwich course? I know we still have to pay around £600 to my university just to go on the placement so can we still apply for grants/loans?

You can indeed. There's a limit though I believe. For the grants it's circa £625 iirc.
