Unfortunatley it's the sad truth these days, i've taken countless 999 calls for people just rininging Ambulance to let us know theres someone there.. not actually willing to do anything that could be potentially saving this persons life.. but unfortunatley it's what yob culture does to people..

I'm sure the person at the other end of the phone and the responder/crew appriciated what you did... :)

Sounds a really daft question but the amount of people I know without basic knowledge of CPR etc is alarming when I think of the amount of situations I hear people talking about. GJ on sticking with him though to make sure the ambulance got their and he got seen by them.

If the patient was unconcious normally it's the proceedure of the service to stay on the phone and give instructions to the caller to check they are breathing etc.
 
I once walked past a guy passed out/sleeping on the street, i was drunk myself. 50metres behind me was a police car, so I staggered back and knocked on the door, they asked me if I was lost, to which i said no but there's a guy passed out on the pavement, their response was "thanks, we've had a number of calls allready"
i smelled BS

Indeed. If you see someone unconscious, you first check the airway is unobstructed, then see if they're breathing and thena pulse. Don't move them unless any of the above needs attention.

Always remember ABC first... Breathing before bleeding etc :)

I was working as a marshal at Leeds festival and I thought I found a body. 3 Days after the festival ended, before the cleanup crew got there, I was just walking about on my lunch taking in the destruction and found a guy in a tent. Took about 3 minutes to realise the guy was still alive (he was in a collapsed tent so it was a struggle to get close and still have room to move) and then 10 minutes and various anxious phone calls asking for help before I could wake him up.
Shook me to the core.

Sounds like a normal night for me :p

And as a Paramedic we don't shout in their faces....cough....we check for their level of consciousness ;p

Once you see a few people not breathing or in cardiac arrest you can usually 'tell' simply by looking at them, and dead people are even easier.

None the less good on you for staying put and phoning a Ambulance, as usually by the time we've been called the person would have been robbed, assaulted or just someone had a laugh at their expense.

As a side note, it's funny how unresponsive people can be, until you learn a few tricks to 'wake' them up it can be quite un-nerving when they don't seem to comply.

How many people wouldn't call an ambulance if they thought someone was dead and alone in a field? I imagine 90% of people would...

You should smell it tbh.

I went to reading and all you can smell is stale beer/cider and ****.

In my group some guy came into our mates tent, punched him and took all his stuff.

And some kid had a siezure outside the toilets.

But yeah it is actually a warzone on the last day. Fires everywhere. People just laying around.
 
no harm but I think 99% of people would do the same in that situation. Think people on here under estimate the good nature of people. Stop reading the sun!


not a very nice thing to come across but hardly a heroic act really. (which some of the responses would indicate).

my eyesight isnt very good, if he is 50meters away from me at night id just walk buy thinking it is a tramp or whatever, mabye your response is over the top

what if they die and your blamed? because that person who calls 999 isnt trained in that situation?
