Valkyria Chronicles DLC...

am on ch4/5 Really excellent game this is. Very well put together - i like how every single soldier has their own voiceset, personality etc.

Btw any tips on soldiers to use? Trying to use a group of people that all like each other and get bonuses from being in allies presence etc etc.
 
Vyse (is that how you spell it? The guy with the wierd eyepatch and short brown hair, shocktrooper) is imo the most powerful footsoldier in the game behind Rose. He has all of the best offensive 'perks' in the game but lacks the storline based team perk that rose has. Him + her levelled up to elite make the final level, which is typically quite difficult, possible to complete in a handful of turns. At close range with the rapid fire upgraded weapon he just deals stupid amounts of damage, to the point where i'd say he's possibly bugged, seriously, he does more damage than the tanks in some situations.
 
Yep, Vyse and even Aika are special "cameo" characters from another Sega game on the Dreamcast, Skies of Arcadia, developed by the same Sega WOW Overworks team. So I guess that is why he is quite special in a way.

And in slightly off topic news, The Valkyria Chronicles Anime has just started airing in Japn over the weekend, with the same wonderful cast from the game as well. Me love some Marina Inoue i.e. Alicia Melchiot :p.
 
you can pick this up new in (name removed, (its a blue shop with yellow writing)) for 11 quid. Its on special at the mo. Had loads of copies in my local. Shame i only bought it second hand for 17 quid about three weeks ago.

You might want to edit out the competitor mate, otherwise you'll be getting a suspension from the mods.

yeah i added Vyse and Aika to my regular team :D cheers - One thing they could change in a patch is that when you take an enemy base you must occupy it with 2 forces and hold it for 2 turns or something. As atm its instant win soon as you touch it...you could be outnumbered 10 to 1 but you manage to "ninja" the base so win win.
 
Picked up this on Friday for £12.98 :)

Haven't had much of a play yet but looking forward to getting stuck in. Hopefully the DLC will be good value, not like the usual overpriced crap :-/
 
ch.7 was a bit tough (the uber tank) heh. Lost most of my squad first time i tried that. Weirdly even losing is fun.

Ive always managed to get a medic to any downed solder though - anything happen if they die? cutscene etc? (i like that theres a "retreat" mini cutscene) Can you view their grave at the cemetery etc


ohh i finally figured out how to access the "reports" you buy from the news reporter :D

Later in the game enemies attempt to get to your downed squad before you far more agressively, i've managed to complete the game without losing anyone but i had some really close calls. They did 'get' Alicia once but as shes a storyline character you don't lose her like you do a normal character, this is why i didn't bother risking someone to go fetch her; why bother when she never permanently dies?

When a downed character is reached by the enemy it shows a short cutscene where they say something and then the screen fades to white and disappears. It's like the bit at the start of the intro video where a picture is gradually drawn and then comes to life but in the opposite direction if you see what i mean.


There's a little something at the end of the game that was a nice reward for keeping everyone alive. It isn't much but it was as i say, nice.

Took me ages to figure out how to access the reports, they can be useful though, for example the ones that are based on specific characters once completed unlock a 'potential' within that character. They activate often and are quite powerful. Also, Largos one is rather amusing.

One of the extra chapters towards the end of the game is imo one of the hardest levels in the game, it's the only one i failed on my first attempt.

Level 20 is the cap, however i finished it when most of mine were 13/14, tbh once your characters hit 'elite' status (level 11) they would probably be capable of completing the game. The reason for this is most classes get a tasty surprise once they become elite, the shock trooper in particular becomes god-like.
 
I put the game on today for first time since january. Came up saying there was a patch about 30 odd mb

I have trawled the net but cant find what actually has been updated, anyone know?
and no theres no trophies :(

[EDIT] Never mind. Its put an 'extras' in the main menu which will give access to DLC. Released tommorow apparantly

just started playing this.. been brilliant so far, reminds me of advance wars on the ds. the only thing annoying me is that i put a rubbish squad out and can't finish a mission! is there a way to quit to the episode book to redeploy my team? i've only got 1 save file so if i just re-load, i resume on the same mission with the rubbish squad.. :rolleyes:

I got my copy on friday and have just reached chapter 7, its a bloody nightmare, toons are only lvl 6 and my lancers keep bloody missing the turrets, gave up playing tonight after karl, my engi died permantley after going in to save 1 of my lancers.

Quick question how do u get the best rating for a map/skirmish, ive tried going for the base in my 1st turn, got an H for that :(
