Caught speeding 3 weeks ago- not heard anything. Advice please!

You might find that you're reported for several offences and then based on the merits of the case (or lack of), then some will be dropped. My only advice would be to go and see a local (to where you were pulled) criminal lawyer IF you get a summons. It won't be that expensive but they have regular contact with the decision makers and will be in the best position to represent you. But until that happens, forget about it and deal with it, IF it comes to anything. Nothing else you can do really.

do bikes have onboard cameras like the pursuit cars?

it not like you were just over the limit so if he's following you at 60 indicated on his bike he already knows you are well over the 40 limit

if they just prosecute for dangerous driving the exacte speed you were travelling doesnt matter as thats not what you are likely to be charged with

I've got a good lawyer on hand but am waiting to hear by post first of all before I see him. I wasn't given anything at the time of the offence.

the bikes speedo is a calibrated instrument.

his statement plus this calibrated device is enough in itself. Same with his witness statement that he saw you cross the white lines.

yeah, the lawyer will be the best person to advise if their evidence is sufficient, or whether there are enough holes to get you out of it

When i went to court for my 107, i just turned up and pleaded guilty by myself, as did most others. But 3 people there had solicitors with them, two of them came out looking sullen, wheras one came out laughing and joking and with lots of back patting so obviously got off. It is possible, but only a proper motoring solicitor is able to advise.

All you can do is sit and wait ( and i know how harsh it sounds , ive been there)

yes

28 days and £70 for doing 107mph at 11:45pm on an empty M1.

(by a copper parked at the bottom of a big hill (betwen J40 and 41 if interested) in the dark with his lights off)

Aye my friend got caught by a bike. Didnt get given anything (paper wise) and then ~2 months later a copper came round to discuss what was going to happen next. 80+ in a 40 and its expected he will get 6 points (excessive speeding, rather than dangerous driving). If they do you for racing it could be worse, else expect the same?

I was stopped in november 2008 and got my court summons in feb 2009. luckily my special circumstances argument was a valid enough reason for them to drop the charges even though i was guilty. The day i went to the letter box and saw that envelope was one of the worst feelings ever. Mine wasn't for speeding though. 3 month wait was a bit of a bugger though. Would rather of known there and then. Going to sleep for 3 months wondering what is going to pop through the letter box is not a good feeling. On the flip side being cleared at court was one of the greatest feelings ever.

as we keep saying

it is entirely up to the magistrate what the sentence is. I was lucky in that i got a leanient magistrate who only fined me £70 and banned me for 28 days for doing 107 on the motorway, when i had 6 points on my license.

Had i got an unsympathetic magistrate, they could easily have thrown the book at me, considering the offence and previous history. The clerk of the court gave me a knowing look as well, as i had another 3 points from 2001 on top of the 6. Obviously they were 7 years old so didnt count, but the look he gave me as he read out the points on my license to the magistrate was priceless.

Get ready for a huge amount of assumptions, poor communication, complete incompetance, mis-informartion from many sources and dismissive attitudes.

I was given a verbal Nip, had summons sent to the wrong address (police officer took it down wrong at scene)

Only when I had missed two court dates, and the Third summons was manually sent on to me by the person who moved into the un-occupied house the summons was incorrectly sent to, was I aware of the case happening.

If that summons had not been kindly forwarded to me by my neighbour, there would have been an arrest warrent put on me for non-appearance. My experience, it would seem, is far from exceptonal.

Some information for you.

As has been said just wait and hope.

Once you get to court an awful lot seems to depend on the magistrate/sheriff on the day and has just been mentioned they do look at your driving record.

When I got banned the sheriff (borders Scotland)very clearly took in to account offences long past 5 years old. (he made a point of it in his little summing up speach). However a Magistrate in Durham did exactley the same thing and hammered me because of previous convictions.

On the flip side I was found not guilty in Edinburgh.

Incidentally in Scotland everyone goes in to court unlike magistrates in England so you get to watch other people get sentenced if your a bit down the list, quite nerve wracking it is.

My best friend's sister is a police officer in the area and she says best practice is to inform you within 21 days. If they don't, the officer charging you gets a bollocking. It's been over 3 weeks now. Also he should have given me something ie ticket or my fingerprint to prove what he has told me verbally.
