Jade Goody, the reality TV star who died last month of cervical cancer aged 27, represented “all that is paltry and wretched about Britain”, Sir Michael Parkinson has said.

He told Radio Times: "Jade Goody has her own place in the history of television and, while it’s significant, it’s nothing to be proud of. Her death is as sad as the death of any young person, but it’s not the passing of a martyr or a saint or, God help us, Princess Di.

“When we clear the media smoke screen from around her death, what we’re left with is a woman who came to represent all that’s paltry and wretched about Britain today.

“She was brought up on a sink estate, as a child came to know drugs and crime, was barely educated, ignorant and puerile. Then she was projected to celebrity by Big Brother and became a media chattel to be exploited till the day she died.”

At least someone has the balls to say it.

Well what has Michael got to show for his glorious existence? Chatting inanely on a sofa and inventing some sort of disease, but that's about it.

:/

You can't seriously be defending Ms Goody?

Well for a start, Mr Parkinson has served his country, rather than leeched from it as with the aforementioned Jade.

And I'm glad it was him.

I feel sorry for the lass and her kids (wouldn't wish cancer or the loss of a parent on anyone), sure, but there's nothing special about her whatsoever.

Not defending anything, just pointing out that all these people who comment on the Goody show probably haven't got much to show for their own existence in reality either if you analysis what they do.

Parky's spot on. She represents the worst things about this country - ignorance and laziness.

Her death is sad, but it doesn't make her any less of a plank.
