Had the above board for a while now and running my Q6600 on stock 2.4GHZ

Does anyone have experience overclocking this board? if so what did you do? I have tried to up the usual but then on boot up and opening CPU-Z its still sitting at 2.4, i have deffinetley saved the latest bios settings but never get any joy. Im using stock cooler and temps are currently shown below. whats max i can get on this cooler

use CPUz to detect speed, that may well just be reporting its default speed not actual

CPU-Z is what i use for speeds, just use speed fan for the Temps, Sometimes use Aida32 aswell and over the different programs they all report back 2.4ghz

The stock coolers are a bit crap, that isn't the reason it's not overclocking though. The stock cooler should let you clock it a bit then it would get pretty hot, it seems that you aren't even able to get the overclock to work at all.

Does it say anything like "overclock failed" when you boot the pc up?

Could be SpeedStep or C1E adjusting your speeds under idle.....what speed do you get under load?

Use CoreTemp or RealTemp for CPU temps.

Ahh speedstep, good point, completely forgot to check that,

The mobo comes with some sort of AI tunning which alows you to increase overclocking by % at a time, going to try and do it manualy. Whats the usual things to up.

Underload it remains the same, always jus sits at 2.4

So where in fif you from im Glenrothes yipee

Do NOT use the auto OC thing, theyre crap dont work and end up buggering up your computer (and should be banned), yeah just do it manually

LOL, cheers. i have only tried to use it once or twice, and allways failed to boot, then on reboot it always worked, but as i say waqs at stock

My q6600 runs easy at 3.05ghz with 1.2v going through it, that keeps the temps down a fair bit.

The normal things to up are mainly the FSB, do it a wee bit at a time & then run something like prime95 for a while to make sure it's stable.

There are a load of good guides on here for overclocking, I would suggest having a read of those before going much further, I also found http://www.clunk.org.uk/forums/overclocking/1-c2d-overclocking-guide-beginners.html very handy for a basic yet decent guide.

I hope I'm allowed to post that link, I don't think it's a competitor.

Glenrothes eh :D I'm just up the road from there lol. small world m8ey.

Cheers for that, i forget theres guides on here.

It is a small world indeed, always bumping into people i dislike lol.

haha now that is a real Fifers attitude :D

Seriously tho you should get to 3ghs really easily, for me it was almost as easy as just putting the fsb up to 333, mind you I fitted a freezer 7 before overclocking it. I guess it's time to say that all chips are different & some go way better than others etc etc.

Gl with it anyway, keep us posted plz :)

Will do, On my last board everything was easy to find, this one theres so much hidden away.

Im off tomorow so will go have a good old gander at it and willcome back to you, will need to go read up on Prime95 and should realy give memtest a bash too never done it.

Ohh by the way who would have guesed prime 95 does some scary **** to a pentium 4HT pc at work. yes i know its for quad cores but thought i would open for a look, hmmm well better not get asked why im taking so long

I fitted a freezer 7 before overclocking it

How is that cooler?

Well from the stock cooler to the freezer I did manage to overclock my CPU & still get a drop in temps.

Right just been into the settings on my bios. i cannot find anywhere to increase FSB speeds. There is a bit that clearly says FSB& memory speed go in and theres only timings for RAM and there all set to 1066.

I'm not on my ASUS right now so I cannae look, I don't have that board anyway but the bios will probably be similar.

Maybe it's set to auto & u need to change it to manual before they can be fiddled with.

Just wondering here, Playing about with stuff like prime 95 and stuff, whats the longest i should let my system run on the below temps?

65 isn't too bad while fully loaded, I wouldn't clock it too much more though. That must be the stock cooler m8, on a standard q6600 with a decent after market cooler you would see a difference.

Will go source a decent after market cooler on pay day, i did have it watere cooled but the kit was trash and didnt keep it any cooler than the std heat sink
