Email details and website visits to be stored by the government as of today

"Hundreds of public bodies and quangos, including local councils, will also be able to access the data to investigate flytipping and other less serious crimes."

Well... :( looks like i'm going to have to stop emailing all my mates bragging about the times i've been fly tipping.

I don't use my email for anything serious. If I need to organise something that needs to be secure then I will call, or meet them in person.
The changes will be brought in, and then the people who they are aimed at will find ways around it.

Surely all we need to do to bring it down to its knees is to:
a) sign up for email services abroad (there is a very good business model there for someone to expoit)
b) start using ISP email to mass email each other with keywords for few months

Terror or not, there is no more need for government snoopie to stand over my shoulder and keep notes of what sites I use and who I email than there is for government snoopie to know what I read and who I shake hands with. You wouldn't allow them to check your bag for literature and allow them to file photos of your meetings and you should not allow them to check what you browse and who you send your "unsubscribe" emails to. On principle.

And if takes well organized framing action to convince snoopy it's ridiculous idea then lets organize a click through to some bestiality site for a very important official and then get someone from local council to snoop it out and sell to press.

Err what the crap? So we are going to dismantle the data protection act?

How far have we come since the days a warrant from a judge was needed for a phone tap.

If it stops me from getting blown up by some idiot then im all for it, i've got nothing to hide

It won't stop it. If it's going to happen, they'll find a way to communicate.

Meanwhile, you're happy to sell off our freedom to communicate without the government watching over our shoulder. Thanks.

It'll be funny when the government gets hooked on being able to snoop so freely and then quantum encryption arrives.

i hate people like you.

no offence but seriously use your noggin.

Why? This honestly doesn't bother me. If it were used for the express purpose of hunting down things like copyright infringement it would, but it's in majority for the prevention of terrorism.

On a tangant Phorm doesn't bother me, because, suprise suprise, I prefer ads that are targetted at my viewing habits!

If it's SSL'ed, then no - they won't be reading it, unless they're really ahead of the game.

Not that ahead of the game, SSL Transparent Intercept has been around for a fair ol' while, and the average joe wouldn't even be savvy to the difference.

Furthermore, who's to say they haven't got a bit of Narus kit installed like the yanks intercepting each backbone in and out of the country. 69a Downing Street, is where it would be located :p

But the problem is, that it isn't used to track down Copyright infringers yet, but could quite well be in the future. I'm not one for this "oh it's 1984" tinfoil hat business, but the problem is that these gradual changes and systems that are drip fed into society wield great power, that can potentially be abused.

I'm a lot like you. I see technology such as the above, as I did with CCTV coverage, and think "well, I've got nothing to hide, what's the problem?" - but the dilemma does not come from the technology and what good it can do, but rather how it can be abused.

Who are we to trust the government to do right and ensure the technology is only used in a right, and justful way? Who decides what is right and wrong when browsing the Internet? Systems like this can enable the UK to become like China is, with any content opposing the current government blocked, using the Internet only as an example.

The fact of the matter is, the human being is a complex thing, people can have an agenda and serve that agenda by abusing such technologies as the OP stated, all the while claiming to be acting in a just way.

DOWN WITH THE SYSTEM!
