Bored of games, anyone feel the same?

Call of Duty 4 was the last game to have me immersed in playing something, but it really did absolutely pale in comparison to Halo. I think it's as much about the way your introduced to the game that matters.. First time i played Halo was on a 42" plasma with an awesome surround sound system, dimmed lights and lots of munchies. It was just unreal!

Too busy to play nearly as much as I once did - but I'm still enjoying a lot of what's released these days... at the moment I'm having a ridiculous amount of fun on Mercenaries 2. But I was impressed by Bioshock, CoD4, Assassin's Creed, Mass Effect... to name a few.

The game I quickly gave up on recently was Spore - but I've left it installed for the missus.

Everyone gets bored of almost everything. Natural progression.

At the moment, hooked on Football manager/WoW - nothing new.
TF2 is good fun.

This is going to get me slaughtered but i'll say it anyway:

Yes, i am bored of gaming, but only on the PC. About 8 months ago i bought a PS3 and the PC has only got a look-in for the approximately 5 hours it took to complete Warhead since that day.

'But Streeteh!' I hear you cry 'Mouse and keyboard is clearly better for most games, the modding community rocks and the graphics on the PC are clearly superior!'. I couldn't agree more, the PC is the best gaming platform, so why am i bored of it? Games; there really aren't as many really great games on the PC as there used to be imo (note, i said IMO, it is after all, my opinion and everyone is welcome to disagree, just don't get angry at me for mine). I want games like Drakes Fortune, where the artistic direction, characters, locations, voice acting and storyline are truly Hollywood quality, I want games like WipEout HD that have insanely fast, frantic and addictive multiplayer and i want games like Metal Gear Solid 4 which are... well, Metal Gear Solid 4!

We used to have those, we used to have Max Payne, we used to have Dungeon Keeper, we used to have Unreal. Now we have Spore, a jumped up kid-fest (IMO!!!!1), we wait the best part of a year for Warhead, which while great, only lasted less than 10 hours, we now have MMOs which... well... i hate them, lets leave it at that.

But WHY is this happening? WHY is the best gaming platform being ignored these days? Is it piracy? The constantly changing hardware market? Or is it just easier these days to code for stand-alone machines? It's probably all of those, but until developers realize they can produce something so much better on the PC I'll be sat on my PS3, waiting, hoping, that one day i can return.

I hope everyone will still be there when i do.

I feel the complete opposite.. I am now a little bored of my 360 and PS3, ever since I built my new PC.. The next gen consoles are just not as sharp looking.. Been playing Grid & GoW on the PC after not being able to get into them on the consoles... Both are graphically FAR superior due to better frame rates. When I first got my PS3 and 360 I only used my PC for the net, so it does work in roundabouts.

Last game to that "magic" addicted cant get enough of feeling was battlefield 1942 demo then full game.

Sold my gaming PC around 5 months ago. Ive missed it so much since playing xbox 360 and wii games. Just started a new build to play a few games ive missed.

Just a quick question - Do you think the release of Vista and DirectX 10 has had an impact on developers releasing new games? Here is a small article i recently read.

Generally I feel like I've seen it all before. I'm less often impressed by novelty value or technical achievement in games. For most genres, gameplay mechanics are pretty well established - so good 'gameplay' doesn't often grab me either.

I think this is probably a good thing: a sign the medium is maturing.

It's content that keeps my interest up - an engaging storyline, decent characterisation. Historical snippets, etc. These are things that are transcendant of the gaming medium. They're the sort of things that capture your imagination and keep you thinking about the game when you're not playing. Few games have had it. It's even rarer that we get this type of content combined with the some of the best game mechanics for that genre.

The trouble is, developers are still going for the novelty - the gimmicks - and those are into diminishing returns now. Like many of you, there's not many PC exclusive games that have interested me recently. About the last 4 or 5 games I bought were also available on the Xbox 360.

I'm bored of gaming, it all seems to be the same old, same old but wrapped up in shiny new paper. The 2 games i've been playing recently are world in conflict and Grid and they dont hold my attention or have that wow factor, I play 1 race on grid and get bored and i used to love racing games.

I remember when i used to hear about a new game coming out and think wow that sounds so much better than random shooter/racer/rts number 2. Most games today look good but they play almost exactly the same to the point where i might as well still be using my playstation one and playing gran turismo, red alert and doom.

If i look for games that are due to come out that i would be interested in playing what do i have to choose from? C&C 3, Fallout 3, Civilization 4, Gta 4, nothing new (after reading this back, maybe i'm not looking for anything new? lol) and the one game recently that i thought would be a refreshing change was Spore and that was a complete let down and not what i expected/imagined at all.

I got old and most games these days bore me. im hoping that bf3 and left for dead etc bring the spark back.

Not bored at all, actually glad theres not loads and loads of titles out as it helps me limit the already high ammount of time im on the pc already

Theres at least 8 titles due out or ones I didnt get on release that I'll do in next 3-4 months, also since getting 24" screen and GTX I wanna revisit Farcry as when I did it 3 years back it was on a 9700Pro, 19" CRT at 1024x768 so thats another one

Never get bored of pc gaming, love it :D

Streeteh I couldn't agree more mate, have bought several 360 titles recently, probably buy them at a rate of nearly one a week, whereas Warhead is the only PC game I have bought in months. I know the PC has better graphics but I love the fact that with consoles it is a one-off investment in the hardware. If I want to buy Far Cry 2 or Fallout 3 on the PC it means I'm either going to have to play the games on fairly low settings or spend lots on new PC components, or simply pay £40 and enjoy a game that still looks stunning on the 360 but is pretty much guaranteed to run well.

And as for the OP, I disagree. I got a bit bored of games over the summer because there is so much else to do, but now that there is a flood of good games coming out I haven't got enough time to play them all. October is going to be a seriously expensive month for me games wise, with Fifa 09, Far Cry 2, Dead Space, and Fallout 3 all coming out. Then in November we get Gears of War 2 and Guitar Hero World Tour! :D

Indeed i find just browsing the net more entertaining these days. But hopefully games like battlefield 3 will change that.

i feel much the same as this, since the BF clan i was in split up, i've not really been bothered about games, i still buy them, play them for a bit, then just shove them to one side. Games are so much better when you can play them with a few mates and a few beers.

i even bought an xbox 360 and ps3, i didn't keep any of them longer than 3 weeks.

Yes. Everyone else LOVED it. You are alone. All alone...

I didn't....I thought it was a step down from Morrowind/Daggerfall, and hated that they kept the same CPU-bound, syrupy engine.

I think the problem is that the industry is still using gameplay concepts from 15 years ago. You basically have a choice between Doom with nice graphics or Warcraft with nice graphics these days.

I usually enjoy small studio offerings like Mount & Blade.

just got the witcher and loving it , not really played rpg before more of fps head , but the atmosphere is great sucking right into it :)

I'm not getting bored of games to be honest, its just finding time to play them when I have other things that I need to do... thats the annoying thing about it all!

Holy thread revival Batman!

Got to say I'm in a bored phase with games at the moment. After completing GTA4 nothing has held my attention. I'm still picking my way through Men of War but I'm finding the missions tough and not much of a relaxing break... almost makes me consider hooking up the Wii
