Hey guys

I'm currently 1 pound away from 10 stone and am 6"1

I want to put on 1 and a half stone, What i intend to do is list my diet and hope for some decent advice :)

Usually

Morning

At the moment nothing really, I have been waking up at like 12 because of the break at uni, if i am up early i usually have a cup of tea and a tiny snack...

I see a lot of people recommending porridge?

Lunch

Some form of a sandwich, usually has ham/tuna inside, (I'm been trying to have peanut butter and cashew nuts but i think i have an allergy to them as i have to swiftly get my ass on the toilet seat about 5 minuets after consumption so have therefore stopped eating it!)

Usually have a Greek yogurt 0% fat 9g protein

Some sweet snack such as a cookie/muffin

Dinner

Usually have a very large portion of whatever my mum cooks (yes I'm a student and live at home)

This can be anything really but it usually has some form of meat in it, usually chicken, pork or mince lamb. Usually complimented with some vegetables such as broccoli, sweetcorn, peas etc

In General

I've stopped going out with mates to get wasted so therefore very rarely drink alcohol. I have the occasional bit of junk food but nothing excessive. I NEVER exercise, i currently am doing no exercise whatsoever apart from the occasional kick around playing football and work on Saturdays which involves heavy lifting.

It's obvious what i have to do, EAT MORE!!!

The problem is I've never cooked in my life, not once. So I'd appreciate it if people would refrain from suggesting foods that need to be cooked from scratch.

Thanks

Gustov

Do you want to put on 1.5 stones of fat or muscle? You'll need to do some weightlifting at the gym if you want to put on some muscle.

I guess I'd like it to be muscle :P

Which means I'm going to have to work for it

Is it possible to put on weight without getting a belly and not working out?

no. muscles grow only if you use them.

this is wrong lol a lot of people grow muscles without doing anything at 18-19...ofc weight lifting make it a lot quicker and can only get to a certain size by eating and not doing any weightlifting i guess

also weightlifting isn't the only way he could start climbing or swimming or something of that sort to help gain some surely ? :D probably quickest and easiest way is at the gym though

Guitar pumps them guns. or drumming. hahaha

Seriously though? Does playing guitar burn calories? I know it does because its some form of movement but how much, I'm guessing its very low?

I usually play around 3/4 hours a day, could this be one of the reasons for my rake like physique :P ?

lol :D i think the only reason is you don't eat enough and haven't done so for a long time probably. Got to eat a lot espcially if tallish.

Unlikely, it might raise your heart rate a bit but its hardly going to make a difference. Also to see gains you'll need to go to the gym 2-3times a week and maintain a very good diet, you'll need to decide wether you're commited to this, otherwise, why not enjoy life skinny?

Girls don't dig skinny guys :P

Muscle weighs more than fat, so working out in the gym at least 3 times a week for at least 45mins is your best bet. tbh, you dont even need to go to the gym if you have some free weights at home. Just google some training schedules of the muscles you would like to work on.

Your diet is important as you will need extra calories to burn off, and protein for you body to use. They way your muscles get bigger is when you put them under stress, the muscle fibres break and the body rebuilds them, but builds more to cope with the extra stress your putting them under (like when you break a bone). So your body need the protein to build the fibres. You need the extra calories so your body can use to convert them to energy, and you can work out for longer.

All this sounds a lot of effort, but a few small changes soon add up. My advice would be to slowly get yourself into the routine, and slowly progress the time and repetition of your workouts. Don't over do it or you will injure yourself.

Edit: Breakfast is the most important meal of the day, get a nice big bowl of healthy cereal or porridge etc in you and they will give you more energy for the day.

Depends on the guy and rather obviously the girl in question. :p

Have a read of GordyR's sticky at the top of this forum and don't be afraid to try cooking for yourself, ask your mum first maybe to give you some guidance and to check she has no objections but it really isn't that hard to make something tasty and nutritious - might as well learn now before you leave home than afterwards.

Unless you want to get fat, you need to get yourself to a gym and get on a routine - read GordyRs sticky and search around these forums - plenty of good workout advice.

As for diet you need to eat a lot more than you do now, and more frequently , 5-6 meals a day each with a good amount of protein.

Plenty of eggs, chicken, meat, veg, fruit etc. look around the forum - lots of diets posted up :)

For a start you need a decent breakfast.

Secondly, you need to eat more, however you will only feel like you want to eat more when your body gets used to doing exercise. The reason you'll feel like you want to eat more is to replenish your body and help it recover from the exercise.

Learning how to cook is easy. Help your mother out in the kitchen! You're at home living the life of riley, so go and help her rather than let her slave away for you! It's shocking behaviour! If you're interested in learning to cook, there is SO much info out there, and you have to give it a go! I learnt to cook as a child and I've just developed an instinct from experience and trial and error. You need to learn to be more independent and frankly grow up a little!! Geeze, students these days! :p

Take up a sport. Yeah I know... not everyone is destined to be a sportsman. You don't have to be the best, find a sport you enjoy. At your age there were 3 things I loved. Rugby, squash and basketball. I played that non stop for 4 years. Then I took up skydiving which isn't really a fitness sport it must be said, but in conjuction with that i started doing rock climbing, now I leaned up, and developed a lot of strength and flexibility that way. Of course there is the gym that I now am very much part of.

You have to put the effort in. You need to restructure your life. It's good that you don't go out to get wrecked as I find that a pointless waste. However you need to pull your socks up and make the effort and WANT to do it. :)

eh?
so muscles magically grow at 18-19? your hormones might go through the roof, but your muscles wont really grow unless they are being used.
