Can I cancel and ask for a refund on an Ebay auction I've won (and paid for)?

So I'll be honest I won a desk on Sunday night and paid immediately (as is my habit). Its one I have to go pick up. A better deal has come up and I don't want the desk any more... Am I within my rights to cancel the order and ask for a refund? Presumably they'd be able to give me negative feedback as a result.

Any flames are well deserved. So feel free.

Any distance selling specialists know where I stand here?

If it's a private seller, you have pretty much no rights to cancel. If it's a business sale, then the DSR should cover you.

Two things - one, if (and only if) it was a buy it now auction from a business seller then it is covered under the DSR so yes you can ask for a refund, two - sellers can't leave negative feedback for buyers any more.

Why not pay for it and leave it with the seller, Then create your own auction to sell it and tell them to pick it up from the original seller?

the seller probably doesn't want a piece of furniture lying around the place and the hassle involved in such a situation.

Pick it up and if need be sell it on.

As far as I see it you entered a contract and are bound to fulfill it... however

Personally I'd say contact the seller, tell em your willing to payup but requirements changed and see if they'd be willing to refund minus listing fee and something for their trouble, they might be easy going never know.

I think this is the only possible get-out. But AcidHell is absolutely right ^^ .

Problem being the desk is 40 miles away and I'm having to ask my uncle to pick it up in his pickup (right tool for the job eh). That's why its no small hassle to go pick it up and sell it on.

You are not entitled to do it but you could always ask very politely.

I don't believe you have any right at all. Auction bidding does not fall under distance selling regulations, as far as I am aware. You bid, you won, you entered a purchase contact and you pay.

If there is nothing wrong with the goods, you follow through with your side of the bargain and don't be a douche.
